Hi,

I have owned my macbook for a year and a couple of months now and just recently it has started to shut down randomly when it is not plugged into its power outlet. The batter cycles show 301 and says that it is in fair condition. I have read a lot about this problem online but haven't been able to find any helpful information. Is there anything I can do from home to fix this problem? Is it a battery or hardware problem?

Thanks

I had this problem a while back. Fortunately, apple replaced it immediately. First thing you need to do is go to "about this mac"; "more info" and "power".
Here there should be "charge information" where you can see the remaining charge and the charge capacity. Do they match? This was the reason that my battery was replaced. If you have applecare, it might be okay (However, I have heard that the cutoff point for replacement battery is around the 300 cycles mark) otherwise it might be worth looking into a replacement battery.

Cheers
