I had someone take my keys and I opened the app and it still thinks it’s home

Pretty decent range. I actually got it to 80 feet a couple of times.

I'm not sure how some of you are getting decent range. Mine (I've tried 2 so far) do not work within feet. I was standing outside my car with the Airtag inside and it couldn't connect and the first one I tried didn't connect when holding it next to my iPhone.

UWB is very prone to attenuation by anything, Being in a car will cut down the distance dramatically.. This is why I wish they also have a BT based distance indicator, like Tile.

I was holding an Airtag next to my phone and it didn't connect either.

I tried various places in the car including the sun visor. Being in the sun visor did help a bit with the range but using Bluetooth it only displays the distance within 10 meters (33 ft), and UWB direction only with 3 meters (10 ft). I don’t dare to put it right under the windscreen since it will fall into gaps easily. Actually mine fell under the gap beneath the windscreen once and I had to use a magnet to pull it out, lucky me.

So the AirTag is not suitable for locating the car within a busy parking lot. (I’m not talking about location on a map).

When I open the Find My app it immediately tells me where the keys were last seen on the map, and if they are nearby the "Find" feature picks them up in a few seconds.

If they're not nearby, just walk around the likely rooms and the phone vibrates to tell you it found them, then you get the arrow. The range is short but it's still effortless to find my keys.

I couldn't be happier... and when it's genuinely lost there are a lot more iPhones than Tile users.

For some strange reason, the performance seems to be improving. If I launch the find my and wait a few seconds, my phone can pick up an airtag 50 feet away inside a drawer in another room upstairs.
The airtag is attached to my keys which are inside a faraday case with the airtag sticking outside of the case.
