I'm over this notch and I'm tired of hearing people trying to defend it. It's awful to try to consume media on (why should I have to accept a hole in the side of my screen) and then if I choose to not use full screen, I'm left with 4.9" - WOW a whole .2" bigger than the regular iPhone! The notch serves no real purpose other than to allow added screen size!

Honestly I don't really mind it or consciously notice it at all times when I'm using my phone. It looks quite nice in my view and also helps to figure out the orientation of the screen.

Frankly I think the whole phone is gorgeous and I don't have any complaints with it. But that doesn't mean I'd go out of my way to defend it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Although I really enjoy the iPhone X overall I fully agree that the notch was a very poor design choice and it's deceptive to call it a "5.8 inch screen". Screen dimensions should only include an area that is fully screen and cutouts should be excluded from any measurements.

The notch is a non-issue for me in portrait mode and when the video I'm watch has an aspect ratio that would insert black bars on either the right or left side anyway. However, the notch is a big problem for any content with a wide aspect ratio. I live with it because my iPhone is not the primary device I watch video on. When travelling, I prefer an iPad and of course I watch my TV at home so that's why I bought one anyway.

The Notch is a completely divided argument. For those on a tech forum, it's a ultimately The biggest downfall to the iPhone X according to many on here. But for those who I know who have the iPhone X in the world outside of tech forum, have never even commented on the notch whatsoever. Somethings are just more blown out of porportion on a tech site, which is a minority, not the majority.

Samsung Note 8 and S8 don’t have a notch, so why did Apple? I think the notch was a bad mistake and it does take away from the screen size. Apple could have lengthen the size a tad bit to illiminate the problem. Perhaps Apple liked the new style to differentiate from the other manufactures

You must have missed the large top and bottom bezels on that Samsung housing inferior and insecure technology. (http://bgr.com/2017/09/05/galaxy-note-8-features-face-unlock-hacked-photo/)

You also seem to have mis-parsed the normal sequence in asking your question.

"serves no purpose other than to allow added screen size" - yep, that's the point. I can see people not liking it especially if you're frequently consuming media. I don't use the phone for that purpose regularly, and it's never been an issue for me when I do. People should buy another phone if it bothers that much. Indifference is not the same as "defending" it. It's unique, and it doesn't get in the way of anything I do, it's actually enhanced my experience (vital stats are visible in all apps now). I was actually mad when Flipboard took away the clock in an update a year ago. That really messed up my ****. But again, if you frequently consume media, and it bothers you, get another phone.

I know, I watched a movie yesterday that kept cutting out things I wanted to see, very frustrating and annoying. I don't care what people say, it doesn't fade away. People can lie to themselves all they want, I'm not buying it.
You don’t have to zoom in on the movie... that’s why it cut out.

I appreciate the notch because either we get a notch and some extra real estate (status bars moving to the corners versus having an 1/8” bar across the top) or we lose real estate by having a full bezel and a status bar during most phone usage.

I hate the notch. It sucks coz it minimizes the amount of usable screen space by cropping when reading iBooks, manga reading app, and watching YouTube/amazon streams

In reality the iPhone 4.7 has more usable screen space despite it being smaller

I just used iBooks and most pages don't use the entire screen. The ones that do use the whole screen are very clearly below the notch.

The notch is one of those things where you either put up with it stealing a thin piece of the picture while viewing media, or you tap the screen to make it smaller. The latter defeats the object of having the bigger screen though.

Not ideal and hopefully it’s a development compromise for now.

Yeah, how dumb!o_O
Besides, if you watch a 16:9 movie in fullscreen, you lose a good chunk of the picture either way. But oddly, that's never a problem?

Stats? Truthfully, I'm not really interested in entertaining something this silly being asked of me, but I will reply this once. For the Record, this is what I said stated below:

Breaking down my post for you, the Notch has been heavily discussed in the iPhone forum since the inception of the notch of those who are approve/disapprove. There are Hundreds of threads on the Notch, so any stats are the opinion(s) from Others based on a discussion forum.

And...then I anecdotally added in my own assertion of those so I know who own the iPhone X, who Have not even commented on the notch since owning the iPhone X. It's Called observation(s), which you seem to be conflating as "stats." Two different things.

No, you seem to challenge others who don’t agree with you by asking them to provide you facts, links etc, so I was wondering where you got the minority from? I think that it is a fair question, don’t you agree?

I just don't understand how people watch movies / or even a tv show on such a small device. I never watch either, maybe some youtube clips but nothing extended where the notch would bother me. Perhaps you should buy something bigger and notchless for your media consumption.

....you realize that if you watch in full screen you’d be cutting out some of the content regardless of the notch right?

Perhaps you should not suggest anything to us. We want to watch movies on our iPhone.
