Hello,

Oftentimes downloaded Rar files will not extract.

Every expander application I have would not be able to extract them.

Some of the errors were:

The file "MainFilel-2022-Pass.rar' is not a RAR archive.

The Unarchiver
Could not extract "SMARTReporter Free.app/Contents/Resources/
iconset_dock_2_ok.png" from the "smartreporterJatest.zip" archive:
Error on decrunching

Error
Unable to find the local header for SMARTReporter
Free.app/Contents/CodeResources.

Expansion failed
Implementation required for this operation is missing.

Please see the attached screenshots.

Anyone know of a way to get the files to extract?

Thanks.

Regards,

Paul

Make sure you have latest Unarchiver version. Otherwise, I would suspect the RAR file is corrupted.

I just gave SMARTReporter a whirl and it extracts fine here. But I don't use The Unarchiver. I gave up on that a few years ago because it does have trouble with some RAR files. Keka is MUCH better... give that a whirl.

If you continue to have trouble even with Keka, then something is happening with your downloads to make them corrupt.

Surprised The Unarchiver has failed you. It's my go to for rar files/7-zip.
Yeah have to agree with file corruption possiblity. Otherwise something new in the compression area.

I suspect the file is corrupted in some way. If you identify the exact files you downloaded, someone else can try.

Integrity can be confirmed using hashes. The Terminal command is 'shasum'. Read its man page in Terminal:
Code:
man shasum

There are also many apps in the Mac App Store that will show hashes on files.

Some download pages will list a sha or other checksum you can check on the downloaded file to confirm it's correct.

If everyone who downloads the same file gets the same hash result, then the files are almost certainly identical. But if someone gets a different result, then that file is corrupted.

I tried with one myself (I'm familiar with the app) and it downloaded/extracted just fine. But I got straight from the developer. It would be helpful to know if the OP got it (SMARTReporter) from somewhere other than direct from the developer (which is a BIG no-no!).
