So people will pay $3,000 for a gift card loaded with $400?

Does it come with free strippers or something? What else do you get that would make this even one iota of a good deal? Or is it just a "shiny collector item" type thing?

It looks like people are only willing to pay in the $900 range for this piece of tin on ebay.

Cudos to the people that will double their money for taking the risk.

To the buyers, you can't fix stupid!

Well, something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. You or I might not find it worth that but if someone else does, so be it. Since when is something only worth the value of the materials used to make it? People collect all sorts of things that may only have cost pennies to produce yet will fetch far more when exchanged (sports trading cards, coins, artwork are just a few examples that come to mind).

OP, unless it's something that has sentimental value or you collect, I'd go ahead and flip it now as I personally don't see it increasing in value over time. I also saw the articles stating owners of these limited edition cards we're get 500% or more of face value, so I hope you were able to cash in early.

I think the general hoopla here is the fact that people seem so eager to idolize a coffee company to the extent of wasting $500+ to have a "collectible" item that serves only to mark the degree of consumerism in our age.
