Several readers have pointed out that app ratings and reviews are currently missing from App Store listings as viewed through iTunes. The reason for the change is unknown, but reports of it have been trickling in over the past fifteen hours and Apple has apparently yet to acknowledge the issue.

The issue appears to be a bug rather than an intentional change to the App Store, as ratings and reviews remain visible in both the browser-based iTunes Preview pages for the apps and in listings viewed through the App Store application on iOS devices. Consequently, we expect the ratings and reviews to return to the iTunes App Store in the near future, or that Apple will at least offer an update on the situation.

Ratings have disappeared for a day (or two) earlier too, so its nothing new. Just a glitch like the article suggested.

there is no issue, it's a new feature

didn't notice since i don't read the reviews anyway

Typical that! I finally make the plunge into the world of iOS and now I can't (quickly) research what apps I should download! Irritating, I tell thee.

Thought I'd be the first to say it, could this have to do with a migration to the North Carolina Data Center?

That'd be my guess. Well, not that I know it's exactly that, but some kind of moving/maintenance was my first thought.

Well, as the article says, try using that nifty little iOS device to do the shopping.

Apple also updated their terms and conditions on the app store when I updated an app on my iPhone. I had to agree to it before updating.

Probably just a glitch, or maintenance.

I did notice that updates are still being added to the store, so it's not like the store is "broke".

Perhaps they are preparing for 4.2.

Ratings/Reviews Need a Change...

As a developer who's main application is already on version 3.0.3 it would be nice if the ratings and reviews from much older versions (anything over a year ago) were retired... very misleading when people talk about features that were missing in the 1.0 release which were later added in a 1.0.1 or even 2.0 version...

Cliff.

the ratings are not changing

it is not just reviews, ratings are the same for the last 24 hrs or so

(only US store ratings are same, the others seem fine)

The ratings and reviews thing is a joke and should be removed till Apple thinks up something better.

Almost no one who likes an app gives it a good review. Only bad reviews are posted. Half the time the person wring the review has no clue what he/she is talking about and it can make a good app look bad.

well, reviews are inaccurate but ratings should be accurate, right?

Rattings where better then reviews, but they still were pretty bad at times. If an app had a short glitch because of a server being down or something people would immediately give it 1 star.

I'm hoping this is some sort of update for iTunes ratings. It's really a horrible system, what with the majority of raters and reviewers being complete imbeciles.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Ratings' default view is for current version of an app.. You can click a button to display the overall ratings and comments regardless of version.

I'm hoping this means they are going to fix the store finally.

Same here. Sounds like an upgrade of infrastructure before Holiday Season.

could mean a # of things. 4.2, new data center, mac app store getting set up, or even a possible start of making an :apple:tv app store. or it could be just a bug

I contacted Apple yesterday about the ratings issue. There seems to be more going on than reported. Reviews were being posted with actual user names instead of the nickname associated with accounts. iTunes support tried to make necessary changes but then the system apparently kept the original named posts but added a second with the nickname. The named posts are not associated with the accounts so the user cannot delete them. iTunes Support's email refers to the Ping program and how to use it (I think it is just a canned response until this blows over). The removal of ratings has something to do with them trying to fix whatever is going wrong. Once the ratings come back the "named ratings" are renamed with the nickname.
