Having trouble finding detailed specs on both. I know Ravpower one has larger battery which is good for not only lasting longer but also, charging your phone / iPad Pro etc. But what I am more concerned about is WiFi transfer speeds. Which is faster (in terms of Mbps)??

There is also a third contender made by Kingston (Kingston Mobilite) which also boasts fast transfer speeds without actually stating what they are.

All three have USB/SD for flash drives, SD cards, and external portable hard drives. The battery size is secondary to me as mostly it will be plugged in as a base station for our ipad pros to have some central shared storage. We ideally want to be able to transfer files at decent speeds and possibly stream media... I have nPlayer app which will stream but I have had lots of lag on the wireless passport pro drive - its obviously not very fast.

I as I replied in your other thread/post, I see about 8MB/sec transfer from a 4TB USB HDD attached to the RAVPower to my 10.5 iPP. I have the Kingston G3 and see similar there. I have no trouble streaming mp4 videos recorded with 5400kbps video rate with 420kbps audio rate. No lag in video or audio.

So do you think they are all about the same transfer rate? As I said the WD My Passport wireless Pro is about half that... I also found another brand IOGear MediaShair 2 which claims to have double the wifi speed.

I can only speak to the ones I've tried but following these devices the last few years I have yet to hear of one with breakthrough performance (this current RAVPower is model WD03 and I started with WD01). For the IOGear unit, is "double the speed" just faster than ver. 1 of the unit? They don't say.

Ok one more question (sorry) Right now, I am using a WD My Passport wireless drive which although has its own app (which I used briefly to change the network name and password), easily shows up in the File Browser app. I just clicked scan and it showed up and when I click on it, shows the ‘shares’ Attached to it as well as the built in drive. All the review videos I have seen for both IOGear and RavPower’s media hubs, the reviewer is using only the proprietary app and doesn’t show if it will work with File Browser the same way or not.

I use File Browser because its the easiest way to just copy and paste between different clouds, and external storage in one app, essentially giving me a file explorer similar to windows or Mac, and iOS 11 Files app works seamlessly with File Browser, so basically the whole external storage saga is fixed with one app bridging everything. But if I am forced to use another different app, it takes away from that.

I am assuming both devices will work how the WD drive does... but just to make sure.

Also both have WiFi pass through? In other words, I connect to the mediahub, and it connects to the main wifi internet connection so that I can both access the external storage AND surf the net at the same time. WD drive does this so there is no switching WiFi networks to do different things...

Sorry for so many questions as I am new to the idea of entirely WiFi driven external shared storage... before a few months ago, I had no idea it even existed as an option!

Thanks...

Yes, both show up in FileBrowser and FileExplorer (I set them up as SMB connections) and I usually use FileBrower, not the RAVPower app, to interface with it. And both support Internet pass-through (it seemed more reliable on the RAVPower, the Kingston occasionally disconnecting.

And no problem - I’m happy to help out.

Edit - I use the RAVPower app if I am copying from an SD card to a USB drive as then the copy is straight through the hardware; if I use FileBrowser, I believe the copying also goes through the iPad and is slower.

Ok thank you so much! I have ordered Ravpower filehub plus. It has the largest battery as well so better for emergency power for the iPad Pro / iPhone too.

It arrived from Amazon today. I ended up with a few snags (first I named it the same as my previous one so the networks kind of clashed, then it wouldn’t connect to my home wifi - kept getting red exclamation point but eventually it worked when I changed it to 802.11 instead of 11. And then File Browser wouldn’t connect until I realized it also needs the ‘admin’ name as well as the pass. First things I did though were change network name and password from the defaults. Now we’re up and running and yes that’s two iPad Pro 12.9s :) husband and both have them and both use the BT wireless keyboards at home so they are like mini iMacs.

Have not touched the MBP in awhile...
