Raw 1080p footage on a uMBP

Has anyone used the new GoPro HD video camera setting on 1080p?
The reason i'm asking is some of my friends have used it to edit their 1080p videos on their Macbook Pro's. They have the 2007 model and are having loading issues.

I've edited 1080p GoPro footage on my MacBook Pro without any problems. I just imported it into Final Cut Pro as 1080p HD h.264 and there were no hitches at all.

I only use imovie. Cant afford final cut pro, but soon i'll buy final cut express
