Ray-Ban has kicked off a major discount across numerous retailers this week, taking 15 percent off the second generation Meta smart glasses, and 25 percent off the first generation. We're tracking these deals at Amazon and Best Buy below, and they are set to last through May 26.

Starting with the new Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer (Gen 2), you can get these sunglasses starting at $322.15, down from $379.00. Both Amazon and Best Buy have this deal, along with numerous other options with different lens colors and frame colors.

For the first generation models, you can get the Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer for $223.99, down from $299.00. Both models have a free delivery estimated by the end of this week, with many locations offering same-day delivery on Amazon as well.

The Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses allow you to take hands-free photos and short videos, listen to music, make phone calls, and ask Meta AI questions. You can also livestream directly through Instagram or Facebook with the glasses.

I have a core group of friends and we always forget to take photos/videos when we are out, so I do see the appeal of these.

A good example was being in nashville and doing the pedal crawls. I definitely wouldn't want to have my phone out on those, but the glasses would be perfect.

With that said, a lot of the content people post is filming people that are completely unaware, that's creepy.

I don't think this type of product can just be allowed carte blanche in society.

The ramifications and nefarious (and disgusting) use cases of such allowances are literally endless.

Naturally, a disgusting company like Meta is right at the forefront of it all.

I saw one of these things that can connect to Garmin for data while running or cycling and I thought that was cool but I wouldn't entertain it as long as it's connected to meta.

The concept almost sounds cool until the creepiness factor sets in. I’m good with my “dumb glasses”. Constantly feeling recorded changes human interaction and behavior and makes it more superficial, which is unfortunate.

This is the problem for sure.

Even though it's more obvious, this example does apply:

Think how much your every interaction and conversation and overall behavior would change if people around you were literally holding up their phones and recording you at all times (or even just MIGHT be recording you).

That's basically this product in a more discrete packaging.

Who wants to live like that and/or around that?
Not me.

If these were open source and no meta-connectivity was required they would be cool. But how they work (or don't work) isn't controlled by the person who bought the glasses and the people who might be incidentally recorded often have no clue, even in situations where they have a reasonable expectation of privacy.

Even if they are fully controlled by the glasses owner, it's STILL not OK to just have people out discretely recording (or possibly recording) everyone, everywhere.

This is just not a way to live.

I think the reason they're discounted is that nobody wants them. This is a good sign. Not many of those these days.
