Hey guys! Im a pretty big fan of sunglasses and the different styles of glasses. I am specifically a huge fan of the Ray Ban Wayfarers. I ordered a pair of black Wayfarers (RB2140) in my perscription. Ive wanted these for SO long and I'm so happy to be able to get them. I'm also a huge Blues Brothers fan :D Hopefully they'll be here Friday

Very much this. I've been using them for many years. Up until last year I thought they were English. Turns out they're American. Fancy that.

I didn't know that they were a well known brand; in 2010, on holiday, I spotted a pair of frames in Stockholm that I liked, and asked about them.

It transpired that they were Oliver People's - a brand I had never heard of - and so, I had an eye examination in Stockholm - I was due my biennial eye test in any case, - and therefore, I had a new pair of glasses made in Sweden, new lenses, and new frames. I haven't worn anything else since then.

Rayban Wayfarers are iconic, not least because of Blues Brothers.

I finally bought a pair in June, and I absolutely love them.

Yeah they are! There's a lot of history behind them :) my biggest influences in buying them, besides loving the style, is the Blues Brothers and John Lennon. Lennon had a pair in 64 that he wore a lot. This was before he went to the round "granny" glasses

They and several dozen other high end brands are owned by Luxottica, an Italian conglomerate. If memory serves me correct, I asked a stranger at an outdoor pub what brand their sunglasses were. They're a fairly obscure brand and don't have the notoriety that Ray Bans do. Mostly derived from JFK wearing them, albeit in tortoise, IIRC.

I wear glasses and come to the conclusion to wear a clip on instead because constantly changing glasses become a pain especially when wearing shorts or going into a good restaurant or movie theater and having to carry (in a glasses pouch) case around with you!

That is a perfectly reasonable solution as long as the glasses you wear fall into a 'standard size'.

Actually, I used to wear clip ons, but eventually realised that they were not made in a size sufficiently small for the lenses - and frames - I wore. In fact, it became impossible to find a pair which actually fitted me - or my glasses, - without completely dwarfing my face.

Thus, prescription sunglasses, as soon as I could afford such a thing, became the norm for me.

I where brown lens sunglasses therefore I wear Serengeti generally. I do have some plastic framed Uvex that are every bit as good.

I have become a bit of a sunglasses geek, myself.

I used to be an Oakley guy but I have slowly "grown up" into Ray-Bans for daily use.

My last pair of Oakley’s are the MLB model, which only makes any sense to wear with an MLB 59FIFTY hat

My favorite pair of sunglasses all-around are my classic Aviators

I just bought these “new wayfarers”. I tried a pare with spring hinges which were really comfortable but after a couple of days I realized the China-made shades were very poor quality. I switched to the new wayfarers and really like them

Wayfarers are the only style I can wear without looking like a tremendous dork. Mine are the "new" Wayfarers, but I'm thinking about getting the originals just because.

I went right to the top and bought some Maui Jim’s in my prescription.
See, I had LASIK about 10 years ago so I don't need prescription. Definitely a little envious of your Maui Jim's. Maui Jim's are amazing but I didn't want to pay the $300. They're an Illinois company and they're not owned by Luxottica so that's definitely a plus.

That being said, Ray-Ban is probably still a better balance for me for what I use these guys for.

Became a sunglass nerd very shortly after having lasik. Have some Nike, Oakley, and Wiley X. Like Maui Jim’s and Costa Del mar but haven’t pulled the trigger on those.

The great thing about Maui is they own the supply chain and do it all in house. My glasses were ordered on a Friday and I got them on a Tuesday. Oakley is 3 or 4 weeks out.

Do did I. Plus for $75 Maui Jim put the lenses without the prescription into a new frame so I have two: one with a prescription and one without. Excellent glasses.

I ordered mine from my optometrist and were made in Illinois and shipped to the Twin Cities. It took about ten business days.

They're probably the best in the business. Too bad Luxottica artificially drives up the prices of the glasses.

What's wrong with one of your eyes?

Hahaha, let me clarify.

When buying Maui Jim prescription sunglasses you buy the complete pair of sunglasses with uncorrected lenses. They then replace those lenses with your prescription and return the original tinted lenses in a felt pouch. For $75 they put the original lenses into a new frame. So I got two pairs of sunglasses for the price of the prescription pair + $75. Pretty good deal, I thought. However, Maui Jim pre$cription price$ are $teep.

This thread should be renamed "What are your shades?"

I thought a couple of times about creating a separate thread but I think this is the better way to go

So that second pair is useless unless you get corrected lenses put into them?
