Apple has inked a deal for "Raymond and Ray," an upcoming movie that's set to star Ewan McGregor and Ethan Hawke.

raymond-and-ray-film-apple-tv-plus.jpg

The film is about two half brothers who have lived together in the shadow of their father, but still have a sense of humor. After their father dies, they have a chance to reinvent themselves.
"Raymond and Ray" follows half-brothers Raymond (played by Ewan McGregor) and Ray (played by Ethan Hawke) who have lived in the shadow of a terrible father. Somehow, they still each have a sense of humor, and his funeral is a chance for them to reinvent themselves. There's anger, there's pain, there's folly, there might be love, and there's definitely grave-digging.
Alfonso Cuarón is set to produce, while Rodrigo García will direct. García is known for "In Treatment," "Albert Nobbs," and "Blue."

"Raymond and Ray" will join other Apple films that include "CODA," "Emancipation," "Killers of the Flower Moon," "Sharper," "The Tragedy of Macbeth," "Finch," and others.

Sounds boring AF. Oh Alfonso Cuaron, disgraced director. (look up "Autism Speaks" an organization he strongly supports (or supported? I would hope..) and their disgusting trailer/commercial which pretty much portrays autistic people as subhuman or abominations... yikes.)

EDIT: here's the link to the horrible trailer, took a while to find lol, looks like they tried hard to erase it from Youtube. always be wary of these kinds of organizations... :

It's so bad it's almost funny... but really it's just sad. (...because of how some parents apparently feel about their autistic children, not the autism itself. To be clear.)

they continue to just sling crap at a wall and hope that it sticks. I have had AppleTV for free for a year and nothing they have produced looked good enough for me to watch once. They should just concentrate on Mac innovation and quit being creepy. I don't want entertainment provided by the maker of my computer's operating system, apple nor microsoft.

What, exactly, did people expect from Apple TV?

Television is television. Entertainment for the masses. I would like to see more shows that interest me, but I’m also realistic enough to know that the shows I’d like to see would probably not be commercial successes.

Every single Apple TV show I've tried watching has lacked soul, completely devoid of depth. I'm not sure how they do it but every one of their shows has no sense of world building, especially Ted Lasso which really fails to hide the fact that it's a TV show being filmed on a set (many HBO shows for example are good at making you feel like you're actually watching real people in a real place, Sopranos, GoT, The Wire, etc.).

I honestly cannot tell if those are real Apple shows or not. If Apple is smart, they will try to acquire streaming rights to successful shows from years past instead of being "creators". That said, Disney is owning all other services for original content and that won't be changing anytime soon.

WTF does this mean?

two half brothers who have lived together in the shadow of their father, but still have a sense of humor.

Why wouldn't they have a sense of humor? Could be:

two half brothers who have lived together while working at Walmart, but still have a sense of humor.

two half brothers who have lived together while visiting Paris, but still have a sense of humor.

two half brothers who have lived together while standing in line for the latest iPhone, but still have a sense of humor.

Not disagreeing with some of the questionable Apple selections, but literally every single movie or book could be described in less than ten words to make it sound really terrible and generic, but that doesn’t at all mean it will be bad.

Back to the Future - Lazy kid travels time with old man.

Shawshank Redemption - Escaped felon convinces recently released parolee to break law again and flee country.

Apocalypse Now(most war movies) - troubled team(individual) sent great lengths to find/kill unimportant villain/hero.

Star Wars - Man searching for help.

I lost track of how old these guys were so I looked it up. Holy cow, they are both the same age: 50. One looks like he could play the other’s father. I thought Ewan was in his early 40’s and Ethan was in his early 60’s.

Classify it however you wish, Apple will never have a show that is 1/10 of the quality of The Mandalorian.

Doubt they care as long as they still get 30% of the revenue. Until then apple will feature and try to sell you disney+ all day long. This is why they’re laughing all the way to the bank and couldn’t care less about what you said.

I think they were trying to do the right thing but it's far too long to serve as a PSA or educational commercial about autism. The first half seems to rely too heavily on scare tactics and hopelessness but once you get past that, the 2nd half makes a lot more sense because it really begins to target autism itself as something completely different from the people with autism. That is an important distinction that is usually lost but it takes too long to get there. I assume there's a much shorter version in circulation that would be more effective than this.

Well you did say "originals" which is easily Disney's weakest contribution. On the other hand, back catalogs is Apple's weakest contribution. Mandalorian is a great show but that's one show and once its season ends, I completely forget about Disney but Apple is releasing new shows every other week these days and Ted Lasso, Mythic Quest, For All Mankind, Morning Show are all very strong. I haven't been impressed with See or other action programs from Apple but Foundation (arriving in September) could be huge for Apple TV+.
