I honestly don’t understand the hate with RCS messaging by some forum users.

You don’t need to use it, if you don’t want to use. For us, who has family members or colleagues using Android, RCS is life saving. Ability to send high resolution photos, read/deliver indicators, group messaging etc.

By the way, RCS has not yet being enabled by Apple.

Because it makes Android more attractive. It's that simple.

It will cause less people using iPhones which isn't good for iPhone users since the more users, the more attention the platform gets.

You are way overestimating popularity of iMessage. iMessage is only popular in North America.

People using WhatsApp in Europe, Japanese and Taiwanese using Line, Koreans using KakapTalk, Chinese in China or oversea Chinese using WeChat.

The thing is, enable RCS won’t dramatically lower number of iPhone users. iOS is just as walled gardened as it is.

I would also argue that phone calls and SMS is a lock-in to carriers. Very difficult to make a mobile phone call without a carrier.

You can use VoIP. It is essentially the same thing. iMessage or FaceTime Audio require Apple server. In this case, Apple is your carrier.

Both phone calls and SMS is a lock-in to carriers.
Well yes. I mean…they’re PHONE CALLS. They require a phone network to make calls. That’s…the point of a phone. It needs a network. And someone to provide that network. To “carry” it, if you will. And you’re not “locked-in,” any carrier will do.

Very sad news although it was expected

This will cause some iPhone users to buy Android phones and some current Android users to not buy iPhones which isn't good for us iPhone users who don't communicate with Android users.
This will cause exactly no one to suddenly get an android instead of iPhone.

You act like RCS is somehow an iMessage replacement. It’s an enhancement. It doesn’t replace iMessage. It just makes android users less annoying to text and have group chats with on our end.

The messages app on Samsung/Pixel needs to be overhauled to look more visually appealing. Man their apps are ugly. A dark blue bubble set with gray background would look so much better.

Google and Samsung should consider better looking emojis too, rather than the disaster they currently have.

you listed two examples that involves carriers. you are relying on those carriers to be able to communicate. and you're asking where is the lock in?
Dude, get over it. Your iMessages are also handled by the carriers (when not on WiFi, and by the same or other carriers when on WiFi). Are you under the impression that it is Apple that transports those messages?

You can actually change colors on an android phone if you have an RCS conversation

I can say for a fact that many people will be less afraid of getting an Android phone, majority of the reasons people stick with iPhone is fake anyway, societal pressure from their friend groups. Fear of being kicked out of group chats etc. This will remove that barrier.

Apple themselves knows that more people will get Android now, this is why they resisted RCS for so long. They view the difference in quality in iMessage vs non-iMessage as a lock in for iPhone.

I believe you can customize background and bubble color with Google Messages.

What's a better solution? I rather have Apple bring iMessage to Windows/Android. You have a consistent feature availability across many devices and works globally.

Ultimately, moving to Telegram would be the best solution for most customers.
So moving from NSA spyware to KGB spyware, eh?

Not that I disagree, though. I strive to avoid Apple services that are not multi-platform, simply because I love to mix in Pixel and iPhone. Both phones essentially have the same stuff on them, I just pick up whichever fits my look and mood today.

Outside the US, iMessage is a marginal player. Basically nobody uses it anyways so you shouldn't worry too much.

Which is good. If Apple fanboys are angry, then probably something good has happened.

Tbh the "ecosystem" and the way Apple wants to lock people in is the most infuriating thing about their devices. Apple is too scared to let you even think about trying that fancy new flip phone, so they've tied your passwords, your home controls, your notes, messages, etc. into their platform. Why? If Apple products are good, then people will buy them anyway, no?

How many? 5?
Come on, this is a good thing for interoperability and will not hurt iPhone sales

I can say for a fact that you’re VASTLY overestimating the so-called stigma of android texting vs iMessage.

Unless you’re living in some kind of echo chamber, people buy the phones they want to buy, regardless of OH NOEZ THE GREEN BUBBLES! Which, by the way, are staying. It’s still (to my knowledge) blue only for actual iMessages, RCS like SMS is green.

Apple themselves as admitted that they view iMessage as a lock in for customers, and it's not just about the color of the bubbles, it's about the features that iMessage has which regular SMS does not. RCS changes that.

ew no thanks. I'm turning this off the moment it's introduced.

RCS is terrible. wish Apple would not support this. it's confusing as hell and locks in consumers to carriers. who thought this was a good idea? terrible protocol 🤦‍♂️
Confusing ??? So you want an inferior messsaging experience for anyone who doesn’t have a. iPhone to message you? The buy an iPhone is a dumb answer. Your elitism is showing. Maybe they can’t afford a $500 phone you won’t talk to them ? lol. RCS is also not locked to carriers that’s how much you know or even read the article. You can use RCS using data or WiFi so how is it locked to your carrier ?

I have an Android phones for various reasons like I just like the OS better IMHO and I love the S pen with the S24 ultra. I also have an iPhone as well. iMessage isn’t a reason for me to buy an iPhone or not …

Don’t bother, they’re suspended and just shilling Telegram. Logic isn’t with them.

Google can shut up now. What will they find to cry about now?

Seriously I am happy to have RCS but it’s not something I think I’ll be using. I’m just glad we won’t need to see anymore cringey stuff from Google until they come up with something new to complain about.
