What will happen to RCS with a mismatch - iPhone on iOS18 and Apple Watch S4 on watchOS 10? How will Apple handle it? What will happen to the thread when some responses will be sent from Watch that does not support RCS ?

Here, I just upgraded to iOS 18 before lunch because of RCS and a friends abroad in another country who’s on Android to message him.

My watch, iPad and Mac tell me it’s sent as SMS but the iPhone lastly sends it as RCS. So it’s great :)

Also to mention, he has only an iPad with iMessage. I had fears that it would always try to switch to iMessage with the email, but it keeps using the RCS as (at least for me) preferred.

This is good info. If this persists i will have zero reasons to upgrade from S4 :). Thank you

Just in addition, I just updated m U2 to the latest RC and it still shows SMS for my RCS contacts. Now, it would be interesting what would happen, when my watch is standalone and I’m writing him.

Is it relayed to my iPhone and then send as RCS or will it be sent by the internal eSIM as SMS. Since multicards here can’t send SMS and are being relayed by the iPhone (unless it is connected somewhere to the iCloud) it should work the same way for RCS.

Still wondering that this detail isn’t shown in the Watch messages app.
