Is there anyway to make the user on the windows machine still be able to look at their desktop and not kick them off?

yes there is umm windows 203 does it nativly but ill try to find the hack for xp that does it

ok i found the link but make sure your read everything that it says before, eg make sure u are running winxpsp2 and not on a domain blah blah as it say
