If you're on the same wifi network (and your laptop is on), you can use File Sharing like in the post above.

If you're on a remote network (i.e., away from home), then your best bet is a cloud service -- iCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, etc.). I use DropBox and iCloud, personally.

iCloud is very simple since it's built-in to your Mac and iPhone. DropBox is good because it's also cross-platform with Windows, so works well on my work PCs. There is an iCloud app for Windows, but it won't install on my locked-down work PCs without admin access (which I do not have). Meanwhile, DropBox works without admin access so it's a good solution for me.

Further to xraydoc's post, Dropbox also offers a direct sync with your document folder on your Mac - but I've seen mixed success on its usage. Probably just safer to copy files directly to your Dropbox folder and then access it via your phone.

Similarly, if you use Microsoft Office, then OneDrive could be an useful alternative. There is a limited free storage level, but if you are running Microsoft 365 products, the storage goes up dramatically. Cross platform access with this product, their computer and their mobile apps, too.

'The one with the little house'...are you sure you mean the Documents folder?

Yes the one with my name and little house.
I installed Drop Box yesterday to see how it goes.
Big Thanks to all.
