Read iBooks on macbook white?

I'm new to Mac and wondering if there is a way to read the iBooks on a Macbook instead of having to get an iPad to read them.

I don't know about iBooks, but you can download and read other ebooks from Barnes & Noble, ebook.com, Sony, etc. on the mac. Their sites offer downloads of software needed.
