read only flash drive

I have a thumb drive that somehow got set to read only. Does anyone know how to fix this so I can read/write?

What type of thumb drive and did you use it with another machine?
Are you able to write to it on another computer?

its a pny attache. Tried a few different machines both Pc's and Mac's none of them let me write to it.

^Does it have a lock button on it or something of that nature?
Check the manual that came along with it.

yea, it has a lock button but it is set to unlock. I tried setting it to lock and then to unlock again and it didn't help.

Dumb question... Have you tried reformatting it?

yep, I tried that and it says "insufficient privileges"
