Last night my Macbook charger decided to give up on my and now it doesn't work anymore. i.e. Won't charge no matter what I try.

So now I'm using my Ubuntu laptop. But I need to access some files on my Macbook so I thought I could use my Time Machine backups to do this, but when I tried to open the folder from my Time Machine HD it says I do not have permission to read it.

Is there a way for me to get permissions to do this or am I stuck? Or does someone have the solution to my charger problem? I'll probably have to end up buying a new one anyway, but that won't happen for a day or two.

Another way to back up

Try CrashPlan. You can back up your mac and/or windows machine to ubuntu. (Heck, you can even back up ubuntu to your mac).

Once you've backed up on one platform, you can restore to another.

Say you throw away that old windows laptop and buy a new mac pro - simply install crashplan on mac pro and restore your windows files on your mac from your ubuntu box.
