Hello All, I have an old SSD removed from a MacBook Pro model A1398 that I used to own. I put it in an external enclosure and connected it to my newer 2021 M1 MacBook Pro and I am trying to access the photos and files that are still on it. I am getting a message "Disk Not Ejected Properly" when trying to read it. Any ideas about how to get past this?

Thanks

Try a different USB cable to connect from the external enclosure.
Or, a different enclosure.
Or, connect to a different Mac

The MacBook Pro was a 2015, is that correct?

If so, these use a blade SSD with a "proprietary" connector.

What KIND of external enclosure did you use?
I don't believe a standard "M2" or "nvme" enclosure will work, because the pinouts are different.

We need to know that information before going further.

I believe Other World Computing makes a special enclosure for these SSDs, but it's expensive.

There may be a few other 3rd-party enclosures available.

This is what I used. It is made for these Mac SSD's

Thanks!

I've never used one of these enclosures myself.

From what I can gather reading from the images above, it looks to me like this enclosure was designed to accept BOTH Apple-specific nvme's AND "regular" nvmes, using an "adapter" that was included in the package?

If this is correct, is the adapter "there"?
How is it configured?

(I may be mis-interpreting what's going on here -- there may not BE "an adapter" at all??)

Like Delta said, might be best trying this on ANOTHER Mac.
I'm thinking a slightly older, Intel-based Mac if you have one that's available.

Actually yes, there is an adapter but I did not use it because the ssd fit into the enclosure without the adapter.

Thanks for the reply,
Paul

More questions:
- the SSD blade... it is an Apple "factory original", or is it a 3rd-party replacement?
- what SIZE is the blade drive?
- is there a brick n mortar Apple Store anywhere near?

WHY I asked these questions:
An Apple Store genius bar might be able to "get the data" off the drive for you, but only if it's an Apple factory-original drive.

If the drive isn't large... say 128gb or 256gb
and
If the data on the drive is not absolutely important to you
then
It's really not worth spending any more money on it...
