Reading and writing on Mac OSX Journaled (on a Windows 8 device)

Hi. Can somebody link me to a software that would enable me to read and write on Mac OSX Journaled hard drives on a windows 8 laptop.

If you need it for more than the 5 day trial and don't want to pay for it:

1. reformat the Mac drive
2. read and write to it over a network

I'm happily using my mac. I'm asking this for someone I know. Is there any goof free software out there? If not, I'll just tell him there isn't.
