Oh I love a list Q&A..

1.Do macs performance get sluggish and slow over a period of time of usage - No - and with Snow Leopard in Jan 09 it'll get even FASTER!!!

2.How stable is the operating system? Will I regulary be doing maintenance to fix errors - Very Stable - personally not one crash ever and that's using Final Cut Pro HARD. Occasional updates but very simple and usually grouped in a single package - and thus not endlessly complicated like windows.

3.whats the most important piece of hardware for macs running wise? Processer or ram etc? Both but the spec of machine you've ordered will be amazing. Get 4Gig ram from crucial - then your done

4.What's is the advantage of MacPro's over iMacs : expandability, power if your doing heavy rendering with Final Cut Pro

5.What are the "must buy" pieces of software? Any Apple package if it's relevant to your interests. they are all top notch!

6.Im a current mobilme subsriber on my PC. If I switch to mac how do I get access to all the other pieces of software that come with mobilme, etc iweb. - All pre-installed on your new Mac and it will 'just work'

7.Will i be able to upgrade to snow leopard OS when it is released. Yes

8.Do the current iMacs have 64bit support? Yes, they are 64-bit Unix under that gorgeous OS running on 64-bit core 2 duo processors.

9.Is there a guarantee with iMacs, or do I have to buy applecare? 12 months in the UK. Consider buying Applecare in month 11

10.Ive heard that iMacs develop a "Vertical Lines" problem overtime, does this still happen with imacs now? Didn't happen to mine. The iMac you've specced has a very high quality H-IPS screen so I doubt it very much

11.How soon will the iMacs be updated, should I wait? 90% Likely next year now - iMac only updated recently and runs a hybrid montevina/Santa-Rosa chipset

If you're hoping to get away from corruption of external drives by going to Mac, be aware that OS X does no better a job of maintaining data integrity than Windows Vista does.

I can't count the number of times I've had a "permissions error" on my internal drive or the times I've had to format my Time Machine drives because OS X has messed them up.

Good luck.

I think Vista is doing a great job for apple, people like me have just lost faith in MS because of it. And just looking at the Mojave Experiment just shows you how desperate MS seem to be getting. I think there is going to be even more of a shift in the tide towards apple products in the future, first the iPod and now the iPhone, then the Mac.

Thanks for the warning about corrupt drives, truth was that I was planning to switch to mac for a while but just needed a good excuse to push me to switch. Losing about 70% of my precious music library was the last straw. But Ill be backing up more regularly now as well.

Well this Mac experience gets better and better, no annoying slow antivirus/firewall software to deal with, and no malware/spyware to worry about :). Its only been 3 days since ive owned my Mac, but im so happy with it, ive managed to really get into and manipulate my media, multitask and generally have a great user experience at the same time. One thing I couldnt get used to not having is the right click option, i felt lost without this! had to enable it.

Feel like telling all my friends, get a mac, but it would be hard to explain why unless they really get into using them!

People actually install antivirus and firewall software on their Windows machines?

I've been running a couple of computers here at home with no such software successfully for a good two or three years now. Maybe it is this, rather than the OS itself which is causing problems for most of you people?

 Yeah, that makes sense. I'm sure you have been running great without antivirus (hey so have I), but most people don't hang around internet forums all the time and aren't capable themselves of understanding safe browsing practices. Plus you need anti-virus/spyware if you work in any business setting. Having any important data stolen/corrupted is not acceptable in a business environment.

Time Machine for Leopard is extremely useful for automatically backing up your entire computer. Just get a big enough external drive and you are set.
