Popular free-to-play iOS racing game Real Racing 3 has received an update which includes a new "Daytona Experience" race pack and enhanced integration with Apple TV.

The Daytona Experience features iconic 700-horsepower NASCAR Spring Cup Series cars and the opportunity to take part in Daytona 500, the most prestigious race in the NASCAR calendar.

From February 16 through March 4, players can compete in the Daytona 500 event on the new Daytona International Speedway track in a bid to unlock four NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock cars. The pack also offers the opportunity to choose from a selection of authentic race teams and drive alongside legends of the sport.

In addition, the update builds upon Real Racing 3's cloud-based Apple TV integration by enabling players to compete side-by-side against each other in a new split-screen mode called Party Play.

The update also brings a new event to proceedings called The Sixth Element, which allows players to take the wheel of the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento.

Real Racing 3 is a free download for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad available from the App Store. [Direct Link]

Got plenty of good play out of this game without paying a penny. Not fired it up for a while, but will do to try out the Apple TV integration.

Is split screen on atv3 or only on atv4? RR3 is a good game not great but good. Asphalt 8 on the other hand is great.

Unless you are referring to using AirPlay to play the game on the Apple TV 3, there is no App Store for the Apple TV 3.

It's not a good freemium app:

- Framerate is awful
- menus are bad
- shows Siri remote controls even if you're using a MFi controller.

The menus are utterly dreadful, especially in the most recent version, I don't remember it being that bad when it first came out.

You don't like it, got it.

Nothing wrong with good freemium apps. The need for speed one is timer based too but an awesome game

Whilst I don't understand how anyone can like freemium apps that's obviously a subjective matter of taste, but it is infuriating when they appear to crowd out decent, pay up front games. Is there a decent racing game on iOS that I can pay for once?

Theme park is another example of freemium ruining games, a proper version of that would be amazing on iPad (I'd prefer theme Hospital though).

The cost rate for things later in the game is atrocious. It's a fun freemium app if you're just a casual player in the first few levels but its effectively impossible to make progress later in the game without putting in significant amounts of money.

I have a love/hate relationship with this game. First off the gameplay, graphics and amount of content are stunning for a mobile game. It is genuinely fun to play.
Unfortunately they won't let me pay them. I want to give them a big chunk of money for a premium version. I would pay more for this than any other game in the App Store.
But under no circumstance will I pay for consumable currency. I'm not always against IAP. In fact I feel that RR3 would be fine with content packs. I just don't find paying for progress to be engaging or fun.

Oh how I miss RR2. They pulled the plug on multi player a year ago. All I want is multi player and maybe some time trial. That game nailed it.

Multi player on version 3 is horrid. Unplayable. Time trial is limited to "drive" points and preselected cars and tracks on a weekly basis. Never mind the absurd number of things you need to manage, whether you pay or not.

I spent a lot of time trying to pass levels and goals and obtaining cars so I could actually hope to start enjoying the game. Then I realized that was the game. Goodbye.

I recently quit because of this. You can get free cars if you complete periodic 7 or 10 day challenges. However, it limits the number of time you can play at once without significant cost. And you can't play the next day's challenge in advance. I ran into a personally busy time on the last couple days and couldn't complete the objective. I would have spent "gold" to buy my way through the last set of challenges but the game forced mandatory spending in another event in order to proceed. This left me without enough funds. I tried to buy "gold" via in app purchase and they were offering a 200% bonus. However, it still would have cost me $20 for a non-competitive car. I would have needed to spend a bundle more to upgrade the car to a competitive level. This might even be worth it if you have free use of the car, which you don't. It's limited to predefined challenges and about 5-10 minutes of driving per session.

Im so glad I finally quit this game.

Interesting that EA lost the bid / gave up on Nascar games for PC & consoles but is still trying to cash in on a mobile version whenever they can. There's a reason that they don't make them anymore...

I can't believe out of all the things EA Sports does, racing is off the grid bad - all the while, EA Games keeps Need For Speed skidding along by the pants. Mind-blowing.

To my knowledge there are no great racing simulations on the App Store.

RR3 is nice as a driving experience but the amount of in game management implemented to steer you towards overpriced iap's neuter a the whole product.

Asphalt 8 is a fantastic game, you get a serious amount of mileage out of it without paying a cent. Of course if you want you can sink a serious amount of coin on it as well.

I really wish it got split screen multiplayer however. There's only so many cups of Beach Buggy Racing you can do. Still fun mind you.

I really enjoy RR3 until it starts to get expensive to play. The upgrades were half way reasonable before. Now they're expensive. It's cheaper to buy a car when it's on sale than it is to try to win one in a challenge.
