The second step is actually having the service doing something (locating). This happens when you press the little blue "locate me" on the map. If you don't unclick this, even if you leave the map application ,the GPS is still up and running and listening to teh signals from the satelites, and that sucks power down hard. The only option to turn this off is to either uncheck the blue locator orb, or go into settigns and completely disable the service.

If you turn the service on, but NEVER go into the map application and hit the orb to initiate tracking, you're not really using any battery.

Thanks so much!! I never knew that! Hopefully that'll save me some battery now :D

Battery Life... "I told you so"

Yes, the battery life sucks... but it's understandable given what all the new phone is doing - the push, wi-fi, 3g, etc.

I feel the need to point out that when everyone pitched a fit about the first gen iPhone, :apple: Apple said that the reason they didn't include it was because the battery life would have suffered too much. It didn't stop people from demanding it... relentlessly... so we got what we wanted... and here we are.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they caved... I love my 3G speeds... but man... that'll teach us. hehe

One thing that would be nice: A quick Energy Saver icon on the home screen so we don't have to dance through a bunch of toggle switches in Settings in order to slim down our energy-sucking services.
