Why did I buy the MacBook Air M2? [...]

What model did I buy? [...]

How did the set up process go? [...]

How has the M2 been for normal usage? [...]

Why didn't I spend a few more dollars and get a 14 inch M1 Pro, as is suggested by a lot of reviewers? [...]
Thanks OP for structuring your post so well. You could easily write blogs or articles or something.
When there's an infinite amount of words and paragraphs in a review, my ADHD kicks in.

Thank you! I just think some of the reviews have been a little ridiculous for the M2 Air, nobody is buying this if they are a professional video editor, and will push it to the limits like some of the benchmarks that are being tested are doing. A review from a real world perspective was needed. And I would like to write an apple blog and articles, its something I am trying to figure out!

Oh yea, I bought through the educational store since my wife is in college. About $150 off plus a $210 gift card for their back to school promo so I don’t mind waiting a bit.

my biggest hold back was macos, just never owned a Mac before and not familiar with it but I think I’ll adapt quick. I got 14 days with it to make sure lol
I bought through the education store but I only got $100 off and $150 gift card not $150 off and a $210 gift card. What am I missing?

Midnight is the best colour imo, but you will have never ending finger prints, almost impossible to get off even with apples polishing cloth, and they are back within 5 minutes of use.

So imo you just have to like the look of fingerprints 24/7, if not don't buy midnight.

My review after 1 week, base model is a rip at $1900AUD v M1 at $1500 and it's faster lol. Not worth paying $450 more for a 8/512GB when long term you will really need 16GB, then you are at 14" price with:
WAY better screen
Way better speakers
PROmotion = deal breaker
Ports if needed or not but good to have.

Forget about if you need power, apple pro doesn't mean pro user look at the iPads.

Returned.

All good points. The point often left out in the 'just buy the 14 inch MacBook Pro on sale' discussion is size and weight and which is quieter. The MacBook Air is lighter and smaller and hence more portable as well as quieter. Some people put value in that if they carry it around a lot. If its just sitting on your desk, then agreed. The 14 inch MacBook Pro is better value.

I have a MacBook studio for when I am sitting at my desk working, but rather like my M2 MacBook Air 512 gb / 16 gb for when I am on the go. As for the midnight and fingerprints... agreed its a losing battle. But we value the patina of aging leather, why not the patina of fingerprints on our computers? I like the on the go well used look.

Good that you did not buy the base SSD. No one said the M2 has slowdown issues other than the base so this real world review is the same as the YouTube reviews anyway and does not contradict anything they said.

My problem with the YouTubers is they blur the lines by usually referring to the M2 MBA baseline cheapest version as just the M2 MBA. Whether their issues mean anything in the long run or not, in the end they mostly are only talking about one configuration out of many. So I find reviews like this one, to be very helpful.

My 14" was as silent as the Air 2 when I had them.
Yeah the Air 2 was light and easy to grab one handed.
If the screen was on par with 14" and it had pro motion, could see getting the 16/512 A2 good value v the 14".

I grabbed a midnight 16/1TB on launch day from apple. I work in education and I do extra for my school with web design, video editing and photo editing. The MBA M2 is nailing it without issue.
