If I order one online now is it a problem if I end up canceling it? I don't want to be charged for two machines.

I was planning on getting one in stores. I just want a base 27inch model so I thought it would be easy. I am guessing I can get one in stores before it ends up getting shipped in "January", but I thought it might be good to place an online order just in case things don't work out that way.

I but the bullet and ordered my CTO 27" ... now I'm deleting the email and forgetting I ordered it until it shows up in a month or five haha...

There is a cancel button right at the top of each listing in your account's tracking page. Real easy.

I actually have two ordered my self, the first from MacMall before I realized they aren't getting them anytime soon and one from Apple. The first with a tracking number wins, and the other is canceled.

You might as well order now if you want the fusion drive. I don't think apple stores get stock for BTO models. The only way to get them is to order them online.

my apple store has the fusion configurations, your right though i dont think they all do

I think if you order now you'll get it January 31th.
Everytime Apple said a date it was the last day of the month.

I ordered November 30th which was the first day and my delivery is 3rd - 9th January.... So almost 6 weeks. So I think the end of the month is realistic.
I agree, 4-6 weeks looks like the waiting time right now and putting it off isn't going to help for BTO upgrades. Also I agree at a minimum include Fusion, all reports is its worth the upgrade. But remember to have a backup solution, there are lots of low cost USB3 HDDs now.

I ordered my 27" on Dec 1st and still waiting and hoping to get it this week.

My 2 Apple Stores both got the Fusion iMacs in, but both were the maxed-out configurationm (I think they were over $3k). The Apple Store rep said they'll only get 3 configurations in. One low end, one mid-teir and one maxed-out, only the maxed-out will carry the fusion drive.

ok guys so quick update here, havent heard anyone else with this so far....been waiting since the 5th, ordered the 3.4 i7, 8gb, 768ssd, 680 graphics, I know when i ordered they told me the money wouldnt get taken out of my account until when it was preparing for shipping..So this moring i woke up and was checking my bank statements and i got the full amount taken out with the date of january 3rd next to it? Even though todays only the first...so then I checked online with apple and it still says processing?? anyone have any idea? Maybe it will be preparing for shipping january 3rd? idk, anyone have a clue?

Some note to apple, it is January now...

On the Apple site it is still say January.

As far as I know now it is January?
Is it available now?

or soon we will see Fab ?

I really hope that the person who is in-charge of this MEGA imac fiasco doesn't work in apple any more or at least he is not in the imac team.

This is going to remain the biggest product launch fail, ever!, in apple history.

Sometimes when I see the amount of imac 27 availability, it makes me wonder if Tim cook personally build each and every one of them, and not a factory 100K people.

is apple aware of the fact that January contain 4 weeks, so if I buy now I will wait 4 weeks max??

This is will probably be in history the biggest product launch fail ever.

By your logic, and by anyone else's, it will also be January on 31st. Hope you can wait 29 days ;)

I think they running out of Fusion Drive (most demand order 1TB) and the time could be push to February and Production can be slower down as Chinese New Year on the second weeks.:(

Drama much?

well i'm seriously contemplating cancelling my order becuase i waited until the 27th (well it shows the 26th on my order page because of the time difference) to place my order thinking apple would have gotten a hold of the production issue by then, but it seems everyone over there is busy taking days upon days upon days upon days off work and not getting the product out to it's customers. i know that sounds really negative, but i'm so anxious to get it that waiting these last few days has me wondering if i can even make it until the end of this month (which is probably when mine will ship). anyway to answer your question it seems most people that have gotten theirs have been waiting about a month.

If you've decided this is the computer you want, ordering at a later date won't cause it to arrive at an earlier date than it would have anyway.

Ordering late on the 5th resulted in shipment early on the 2nd....so 27 (and a bit) days from ordering to shipment.

Delivery quoted as a maximum of 7 more days. So probably will end up 30-34 days in total.

Reading that was refreshing haha.. instead of getting angry at the unknown shippments live life and come home to a brand new imac on your doorstep one day. win city!

It's not a fiasco in my eyes. Apple said the 27-in models would be shipping in December and mine arrived before Christmas. So I'm a happy bunny.

Two of mine shipped on the 14th and yes I do still think it is a fiasco.

I kinda feel like they didn't want to be embarrassed by not shipping a model in 2012, so instead they launched them before the supply was ready. I wonder if they overreached with the new design, would have been better served with an incremental update earlier in 2012 and launching the new design with the 2013 model. Would certainly saved many of us some heartache.

But, what's done is done. They're beautiful machines, and I look forward to seeing them in person.

I ordered today... wish me luck...

I ordered mine yesterday from a local ebay dealer in Connecticut, so that no one will tell me I'll receive it next year. The configuration I chose appears in my signature below. It seems to me that those dealers, get those units faster than the Apple store.

I received mine on Dec 13th, however, I do agree that the order shipping landscape seems to be one chaotic fiasco.

I am a sad panda for those who placed orders on November 30 and have yet to see their iMac. For that matter, it is too bad that the supply pipeline is so narrow and long for anyone wanting one of these beautiful computers.

Ordered on 9th Dec.....estimated delivery was "January" at time of order and it still is. Order has been "Processing" ever since.......

I think if you order now you'll be very lucky to get it in Jan regardless of what the website says.....unless there is a whole lot of production capacity about to come online I don't see how every order that has been made since 3rd or 4th Dec (roughly where we seem to be in terms of orders that are being delivered) will be sitting on the buyers desk by the end of January. The fact that people who ordered only a couple of days before me are seeing their orders starting get shipped and I have no updated delivery date tells you things are not as they should be.
