Curious about some of the programs that were demonstrated.

Is that Navigon in a real full screen mode? Not just 2X?
Did I miss an update? I hate the 2X mode.
His map screen went all the way to the time bar on top. Mine doesn't.

I'm also wondering what program was running when he started driving? Was it a power booster gauge or what?

    Wonder how he syncs?

Gotta say though, looks like a great install.

I am not sure how legal it is in some states/countries, really cool for Safe drivers that use it only for music and navigation

True, you would also have to be careful what programs you have loaded like the police and fire scanner. BIG ticket and they take the equipment in my state.

This could be a ticket magnet in some states.

I thought it was illegal in some states to have screens capable of movie playback in the front of the car?

If you jailbreak there is something you can install from cydia called FullForce that he was probably using. It makes iPhone apps look way better on the iPad.

    True in my state.

Didn't know that. Thanks. Did not JB the iPad yet so I'm not up on the program options. Cool. Why didn't Apple do that????? Answer not needed.

He could have saved all the hassle and purchased the sync system nav unit. Then just kept the iPad in the center console for the times he needed it!

SYNC isn't as cool as an iPad :p but yeah that works too.

How it was done, needs to be a jailbroken iPad to get FullForce running so iphone apps don't run in 2x mode and for wifi syncing. The app REV off the iTunes store and the PLX Kiwi plug for your cars computer to connect with the REV app. This gives you the gauges he had that was showing his boost. Navcon runs off the 3G network pretty well. :D

He was using an app called Rev with a Kiwi WiFi wireless OBD II analyzer. The latter plugs into the OBD II port located under the dash of almost all cars since 1997 or so and creates a wireless network. The app plugs into the network and gets PID info from the cars computer.

Rev is great and Dashcommand just released an update with some really nice new skins.

I believe the laws state that it is illegal to play a video that the driver could see while the car is moving. Many OEM and aftermarket systems can play video if the car is parked.

Thanks a lot. This gives me a lot to go on. Might give this a try.
Funny how Rev is listed under Sports in iTunes. Would not have looked there for a program like this.

Since this is a built in mounting, what will happen after the Summer Season, where the iPad could roast in a car for hours at 120+ degrees. Car electronics are designed for this, but is the iPad?

Exactly what I was gonna post. Yeah, the idea is BEAST. But I left my pas in the car for a few hours while at a theme park, came back and the iPad was unusable for at least 5 minutes. I had to cool it off.

I hope this guy has some plan to keep it cool.
