I believe overall this is a significant improvement over the previous one. There have been a few complaints of it being wobbly. But the only way I can get it to wobble is, if using it on a flat surface, I tap aggressively on the upper part of the ipad screen. However no one uses an ipad and this keyboard in that manner. Most buy this to have the trackpad or key combos to avoid having to touch the screen as much. I rarely use the trackpad but between a stylus/Apple Pencil or key combos my screen finger touches are few (I hate seeing fingerprints on the screen).
99% of the time I use a lap desk while sitting on my couch. The desk is slightly angled up in back so the iPP and MKB are tilted just a bit towards me so there has never been a wobble unless I really go banging the screen. So I consider this a non issue. Even on my lap with nothing else underneath, my hands are touching the palm/wrist area stabilizing the whole thing. This combo - lighter ipad, lighter keyboard - function keys, etc. make this quite a bit nicer than the previous ipad/keyboard combo. The aluminum wrist rests can also be cleaned with a quick swipe so fingerprints aren’t an issue with no need of applying a skin in those areas.
Subjectively the exterior material seems different, and perhaps more durable, than the previous MKB. Thus far I have not put a skin out there and have had no problem wiping away any smudges or prints. I use iKlear and a microfiber cloth for this just as I do to wipe my phone, ipad, and watch screens. My only concern is that the exterior part of the keyboard that rests on whatever surface you use it on could be subject to some kind of abrasion. My old Smart Keyboard Folio developed worn patches over time in that area so I resorted to skins afterward which worked very well. But they are tedious to get on properly, and if you change your mind later on, removing them could be a significant problem. So I will either use a skin or the much more expensive option of a Burton case to avoid such an issue, or nothing at all. With a Burton case you’re not altering anything on the keyboard so if plans change in the future the MKB would be pristine. But I don’t always use the keyboard and when out and about I have used a Zugu case, which I have ordered for this. But all in all I think most will be very pleased with this device. Justifying the expense is really the only dilemma.
