is anyone elses intel iMac cd drive REALLY loud?
Mine seems to be. I burned a CD yesterday and it was fairly loud... I don't really use the drive that much though so I'll probably rarely notice it.
My iMac G5 makes funny noises when it finishes burning a cd then poops out the cd and sometimes it flies out of the cd drive and into the garbage can.
this sounds like a turbine
Mine is fairly loud, but I don't think there is anything wrong, it just isn't one of those silent drives you hear about (no pun intended).
my superdrive in my powerbook is loud... it sound like a low-powered electric motor sometimes.
CD is a little loud but nothing terribly annoying.
I had to do some sort of stand on one leg, close my left eye, hold power button in, unplug, plug back in with power button depressed thingy one time.
When it rebooted the FAN was on FULL BLAST. It was the loudest computer fan I've ever heard. Ever.
Two more reboots and it was done. Apple told me that it was because after that type of restart the OS hasn't yet rebuilt the "fan control" settings or something like that. But I'll tell you-- it was like that a LONG time.
I rebooted... same thing. Third reboot and it was back to normal.
Other than that, my iMac is the quietest computer I've ever owned.
When those fans kick in at full blast, it is scary to hear. (When I first got my iMac, I had to run an update that required the fans to go at full blast, boy was I in for a surprise).
Only loud for a little while. I got used to loud noises after using my iBook's combo drive.
My iMac is very loud. The CPU fan makes a clicking noise as well. Apple will not honour it. My DVD/CD-ROM is very loud also, oh and my CD fall out the drawer onto the floor when ejected.
iMac 20" rev C.
Optical drives are loud. They look great, but the functionality sucks.
it just seems
it is not normal. i consider myself computer literate, and not an expert, but it is the loudest drive ive ever heard
edit, horrible spelling
...I think I just got mindf*cked by that post. What the hell did you just say?
Mine is mostly silent unless I've left a dvd paused for a while - it seems to not like that and makes some noise then.
It's fairly silent compared to my PowerBook's Superdrive.
LOL. Powerbook drives make noises as they would fold the discs so it fits into the computer
Good to know the fans can deliver when you do hardcore graphics, gaming and some overclocking.
Yeah, I did a reboot and that blast scared the heck out of me until it stopped. The optical drive seems to be rather random with it's noise. Sometimes it'll flare up others it'll be quiet. It's quiet when playing DVD's.
24x when writing/reading spins the disc at 12,000rpm, and boy is that loud. So, my 52x drives that cost me £20, they spin at 26,000RPM and are almost silent.
