Rent my wife....hmmmm....wonder how much I'd have to pay someone to rent her? <grin>

I was in the same dilemma as you are. I have a 50d and decided that I'm waiting for the 5dMK3, even if it's a year. I would suggest getting your lenses in order first, get some faster lenses, sell yours to upgrade. Instead of your 24-105mm, you should get the 24-70mm 2.8L and upgrade your 70-200mm f4 to the f2.8 version. Also invest in the 50mm f1.4, this lens is amazing. Once you have those, you will improve your low light shooting for the time being and be well prepared for MK3 when that comes out.

In regards to the 5dMK2, it's an amazing camera and the hi ISO performance beats my camera by leaps and bounds. Not to mention the movie mode. I do like having the latest and greatest and unfortunately, the current 5d is almost at the end of its cycle (assuming) so I'm holding off.

Having faster lenses will tide you over till the new beast is on the market :)

I recently went through the same type of search. I had a XTi, upgraded to better glass (24-70L 2.8) and started searching for a new body. For me it came down to the 7D or the 5DII. What concerned me is, knowing that the lens makes the most difference the image quality, would there be a big change just from the body upgrade? Would the the expenditure show in the quality of the images. In short — absolutely. I got the 5DII several months ago and have been blown away by the image quality (with the same lens). Versus the Xti, the 5Dii has sort of an ethereal "3D" quality to it. I've even had people notice the change, asking what I had done differently. If you end up getting the 5DII to use with the L series lens, don't worry about making a smart choice — it truly is an incredible and noticeable upgrade.

If my jobs was mainly low light photography, I would bend over backwards to afford some proper primes like the following:

24mm 1.4
35mm 1.4
50mm 1.2
85mm 1.2 (nothing less than amazing!)
135mm 2.0

Of course they are extremely expensive, but if my work consisted of constantly battling darkness there would be no excuse for me.
Then the next argument would be over how much of a difference you'd notice between those and the next one down the line.
