Best Buy has a sale right now as most of you know.
The 10.5 64GB for $525 and the 12.9 64GB for $650 but comes with a free Apple pencil.

Honestly the only thing I see myself on the iPad is play video games and watch movies surf the web and YouTube and thats about it.

I won't be taking it out too much outside, but of course I don't wanna sit with a big screen on my lap for hours watching a movie.

Any thoughts?

I just bought a 12.9 last night, upgrading from an iPad Air 2. The size is going to take some getting used to, but the screen is nothing short of amazing. My use case is very similar to yours and I couldn’t be happier.

I saw it in store and to me it felt just too big and a bit weird to hold if I were in bed watching movies.

The screen looks much more crispier but other than that they seem to be similar.
Decision decision...

I found the 12.9 to be too large for extended usage, where I'm holding the tablet and not having it on the desk or lap.

Additionally, I think the 10.5 is so much more portable, its much easier imo carrying it, either in a bag or just in my hand

I went through similar dilemma, and my consumption is about the same as yours. I decided on 10.5 and couldn’t be more happier with it!

I have the 10.5 and 9.7, and actually prefer the 9.7 for what you're talking about. The 10.5 is better with a keyboard, but a bit clumsy for holding in the hand for media consumption. IMHO, the 12"ipp is for engineers, designers, and artists who need a large canvas. I have a Surface Pro (which converts to a tablet). It's about 12" in tablet mode and is just too unwieldy to hold in the hands for any length of time.

i think i’ll rock both (air2 and incoming 12.9) and use that to decide the next purchase :D

10.5 all the way. the IPP is for travel, desktop/laptop is for desk. the 12 is too big to haul around. Even the 10.5 pushes the edge. YMMV but the 10.5 fits better for most. Go to best buy and hold the 12 in one hand and imagine using it in bed to review emails, books or facebook. No; 10.5 is a much better option even if you don't take it out much. When you do the 10.5 is the way. Just think...how many 12s have you saw people lugging around. None its just too big. Keep your options open when you travel for have to wait for someone. If you find yourself needed a 12 you'll take the laptop. think about it; a 12 in your backpack... NO! 10.5 the way to go!

I bought the 10.5, but it was just too small. I watch videos while on the elliptical machine and traveling. Returned it for the 12.9. I couldn’t be happier. I flew down to Florida today and watched videos on the amazing screen the whole way down. Fit perfectly on a coach tray table with room for a drink Om Delta. Typing this on it in the hotel bed with messages in a split screen right now. This thing ROCKS in bed lol

I will admit it’s a bit unwieldy for playing action games, but for media consumption, productivity, and split screen experience it’s unbeatable

I had the first gen 12.9 and honestly, it was too big for me. To me, the beauty of the iPad lies in its perfect blend of portability and power. The 12.9 traded in on a lot of that portability. When the 10.5 came out, I didn't hesitate to sell the 12.9 and get the 10.5. I think it's the perfect iPad.

I went to target yesterday and bought the 10.5 iPad, had them price match Best Buy and an additional 5% off, plus I have the 30 day return policy so if Black Friday offers some crazy deal.

So far happy I went with the smaller one, I tested both in the store and the 12.9 felt clunky.

The new iOS 11 makes the iPad 10.5 fun to type especially flicking for the numbers.

Thank you all for the info and suggestion, truly helped.

Typing this from my work iPhone and it feels awkward after using the promotion feature. Hopefully next year they implement it on the new iPhones.

Good choice! I am totally enamoured by my 10.5 and it (with my phone) travels with me everywhere! Also, since I my work involves a lot of reading, the IPP has helped immensely. I used to get quite bad eye strain and headaches previously (I used to use a Surface 3 - non pro). The IPP's screen is really fab in this context for me.

Congrats on your new buy!! Enjoy!!

I believe if you used your Red Card to get that additional 5% off at Target, the return period is extended to 60 days. I also just bought a 10.5 64gb with Best Buy price match and Red Card. By the way, Dealnews is predicting $499 on Black Friday. But no matter what happens then, I’ll keep mine.

I got the pro 12.9 twice. Hoping that the next time I will change my mine and like it. After the second time I gave up and waited one more year and then got this new 10.5. No regrets. I love the 10.5 much more. The 12.9 was weird. I felt that the a lot of the apps weren’t designed for the 12.9 making them look distorted. Unpleasant to use. I found that it was a little too big. If I’m going to carry that might as well carry my MacBook 11 inch with me.
Since I have the MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac, iPhones and no iPad, the 10.5 was the perfect size.

As much as I wanted the 12.9, in actual usage, that baby was just unwieldy large. Congrats on getting a sweat deal

i agree with the above posters, tried the 12.9 but for what i use it for it proved to unwieldy when traveling, downsized to the 10.5 and am very happy with it.
