i took mine out of the box friday morning at 9am with 83% charge. I used it constantly until sunday at 10pm when it died. I didnt think it was ever going to die as I was trying to drain it!

that's crazy battery talk, where does it say that?Did you set up you new iPad as "A new iPad" or with an iCloud or computer backup/restore? With it connected to the computer with the cable or wirelessly?
I restored from an iCloud back-up wirelessly and had battery problems immediately. Then I read on this forum that I should restore the iPad to factory settings and set it up as a new iPad through iTunes, connected to the computer with the cable.
My battery drains within 3-4 hours at 60% brightness. I read in an Apple How-to article NOT to let it go to 0% before charging AND not to leave it charging all night--only to about 80%.
I really want to improve battery life and don't want to have to go to the Apple store.
My battery is nothing short of phenomenal. I've owned every iPad made and this one beats them by about 2 hours or so.Last night was the first time I got to spend any quality time with my ipad3. I got home around five, and played with it for two hours or so, went out to dinner, and then used it for two more hours. My battery was already at 10%. This is way worse then I ever got with my iPad 1, which I would charge once every 2 days.
I think that the culprit is the screen. I need to run it near full brightness to see it. Anything below 80-90% is illegible. Anyone else experiencing dim screen, and bad battery life?
I'm going to swing by the apple store tomm and compare my iPad to the display versions to see if I got a defective one.
If you aren't using it, turn off Bluetooth. I notice my battery depletes faster with it on.

and so much for post-PC if ya gotta hook it up, again.!

Display always on, 100% brightness, airplane mode, no apps running: 5.8 hours.
Display always on, 50% brightness, airplane mode, no apps running: 11.6 hours
new iPad screen draws 260% more power than iPad 2 at the same brightness level yet the battery is only 70% bigger.
So how did Apple not lose battery life? Two reasons:
1. Apple made the 50% brightness mark dimmer
2. They made iOS more power efficient

Movie battery life
new iPad - 12.8 hours
iPad 2 (iOS 5.1) - 14.2 hours
iPad 2 (iOS 4.3) - 11.9 hours
So it's rather misleading to say iPad retains the same battery life as iPad 2 because iPad 2 received a major boost. At maximum brightness, running LTE, doing web browsing, you are looking at less than 4 hours.
I know what you mean, still on my first charge, but I was using it at full brightness with WiFi on, and you could watch it drop from 65% down to around 30% in 2 hours. But when I use it with minimal brightness, like usual, I get exceptional battery life. I am happy.

I was seriously unimpressed with the battery life after the first charge but since running it right down to 0% and back up again it seems have done the trick. I think it must need properly calibrated before you start to get the advertised battery life.
