I’m pretty heavily invested into the Apple ecosystem. iPhone X, iPad , Apple Watch , AirPods.

I’m really debating on if I want to go with a MacBook , but I seriously don’t think I necessarily need it. I just want it lol.

I’m usually just doing light gaming (league of legends mainly), streaming YouTube and Netflix and web browsing. I can get that with any laptop.

But damn it I want a new MacBook with that touchbar lol

What are some other things a MacBook can do that I can take advantage of? Should I just say screw it and go with the newest MacBook , or should i go with an older model?

Apple have really good marketing...

Other things you can take advantage of? It's a computer not a utility knife, if you needed the power to do some work then sure, but if you're just going to look at it and gloat then it's a lot of money to put down for that. You can get cheap knock-off versions of the casing and just stick that on a pedestal in your entrance hall, it'll have the same effect.

It’s not about the gloating (because I’m FAAAAR from even giving the illusion that I’m rich).

I like nice things when it comes to electronics , simple as that. I like all of my products to work under the same umbrella seamlessly, Apple does a good job with that. I think we both can agree with this.

I’m just kind of overwhelmed with all of the choices of MacBooks to choose from to fit what I do. And plus I kind of just want the newest thing. So I’m torn

“Need” is a . . . fluid concept.

Follow your heart.

When the tech is purchased, the need will appear.

Do you really want the TouchBar that badly? For your kind of usage, I would personally consider the baseline non-TB model.

Nah, not extremely badly. It’s a cool feature and I think it’s cool. Sue me lol

I would much prefer to have a 15” model though, that’s what my current laptop is.(my laptop is really beat up right now, that’s why I’m considering buying one)

I see, unfortunately Apple is currently lacking an entry-level offer in the 15" lineup. Several people would like them to produce one (e.g. folks who spend a lot of time writing/reading or would otherwise benefit from a larger screen but don't need a powerful machine), but at the moment there is no such option.

If you really want it go ahead, though, nothing wrong in getting something above your needs if you can afford it. As long as you know that you'll be spending a lot of money just for the "coolness" factor and you are ok with it, no one will try to stop you :)

Gotcha, I guess I’d have to see a 13” in person before I pass judgement .

I’d like the newest one but I feel like i wouldn’t take advantage of all the features of it. Which 13” one would you recommend ? Doesn’t have to be the newest. Just want to get a couple choices bundled up and decide from there

As I mentioned above, for light usage I would consider the non-TB with the baseline CPU (just avoid the 128GB drive, which is way too small for anyone these days), a light yet very capable computer, and not too expensive. If you are willing to spend a further 300$ (excluding taxes) you'll get the TB, 2 additional ports and a better CPU.

I would also consider getting a refurbished unit from Apple: refurbs are as good as new, and can be considerably cheaper. You might find some nice deals on 2016 models.

For your use you need a TB as much as you need a hole in your head :) or wallet :D I doubt you even need a MBP

However you must scratch that inch, says a man with a draw full of underused toys LOL

Since you have so many apple devices, get a macbook. Having your computer working so smooth with all your devices is amazing. You'll enjoy all your other devices more as well. The touch bar is mainly nice for it's Touch ID, but you'll be able to unlock your MacBook with your Apple Watch. so the question is, will you use it ?

Is it worth it for you to get a Mac, yes it definitely is. Although if I hear your consuming behaviour right. I would not go too expensive on what you get, people who buy high end Macs, use them professionally for about 5 years. You do not use it professionally so it won't make you any money back and you'll probably not be able to hold yourself from buying a new one in 2 years. So don't spend 4k, go for a 1.5k model :)

Buy one if you don't have a desktop/laptop that is updated.

Take the money you would spend on the MacBook Pro and buy shares of Apple. In a few years those will cover the cost of a new MacBook Pro plus the latest iPhone and a nth generation Watch.

If you want it, can afford it then buy it. It might be over powered but many people buy supercars that take 2s to hit the speed limit and never use its potential, or watches that cost thousand of dollars and do the same thing as something far less expensive.

But if its stretching your budget and can affect other things in your financial planning then maybe not.

Hell of course buy it (if you can afford it).

Just bought a MBP 13 fully spec'ed. Do I need it? Nope. Do I like it and do I want it? Absolutely yes, life is short, gadgets are my hobby so here we go. Love it, such a gorgeous piece of kit.

One of the things I love about my MacBook Pro is the integration with my iPhone 6s. AirDrop is a good example, mobile hotspot, easier to keep your files and images synced. The performance is good too and this from an early 2015 MacBook Pro owner. If you were to purchase one of the newer ones, I'm sure you will see marked performance improvements. I notice macOS seems to handle VM's way better than Windows 10 and PC's. I had 2 Windows VM's, Word, iTunes, Firefox, Chrome and Safari open with multiple tabs. If I dare tried that on my Surface Pro 3 I would look like a fool.

I would buy it to complete the ecosystem since you are so deep in already and if you have the disposable income, why not?

Next year, I will be picking up an iPad Pro and I will be breaking my 'wait till 2020 or it died rule' and pick up an iPhone X, too. Apple can be a drug. Oh and I'm getting an Apple Watch too. I'm slowly phasing out Windows in my home (even though its my bread and butter), since I still support it. By at least 2019, any need for it will be from a VM.

Not that I have a problem with Windows, I just don't find the platform all that interesting or exciting or necessary to use everyday.
