VLC will handle everything including wmv. Mplayer OSX Extended is another, also free.

I prefer VLC Player, as it plays more file types than the other two.

MplayerX. It's free on the App Store. (I dumped VLC for it).

I have both MPlayerX and VLC,

    MPlayerX
    Pros
    -has better quick scan
    -has better user interface
    Cons
-wmv files do not play nice
-some 1080p vids play slow motion for no reason

    VLC
    Pros
    -plays anything perfectly
    Cons
-not as nice of a interface as MPlayerX
-does not scan as nice as MPlayerX but still scans good .

I like to use MPlayerX as my default player but if I encounter issues I always know that VLC will get the job done.

I have had nothing but good experiences with VLC. Very useful!
