Everytime I boot from the OSX install CD and try to repair my user permission, its crashes.

I get about 1/3 through it and it becomes slow and unusable. Can anyone shed some light on it?

And is there a terminal command to repair your user permissions?

Here are the steps for optimizing permissions in Mac OS X v10.2 (Jaguar):

1. Boot from a Mac OS X v10.2 (Jaguar) Install CD
2. Click the Installer menu, then click Open Disk Utility...
3. Select your Mac OS X volume (hard drive).
4. Click the First Aid tab.
5. Click the Repair Disk Permissions button.

I presume this is how you are doing it...
