The SMC reset and the scroll bars being turned on did not fix my issue. I was getting 6-7 hours before Lion. Now I'm getting 2-3. I'm hoping that 10.7.1 will fix it.

Yes, i have the same problem, but have you tried to run it normal until you need to plug in the power again.

for me, it did fix my issue. At least now i am at 58% level, it is showing 5 hours left if i am not doing anything and brightness 50%. and if i run parallels, it drop to 2:30. (parallels is runing a debian vm).

Thanks, I'm going to run the MBP until I kill off the battery and do a full recharge. Maybe it's something as simple as that. Thanks for the tip.

Same here! Called Apple support, they had me run my battery down all the way and leave it like that all night. Did the SMC reset and that hasn't helped either. I agree with hoping 10.7.1 will fix it.

The smc reset + battery calibration did help me out get back an hours worth of my battery life. Right now on lion i got 150mins of movie playback with max sound and medium brightness + 90 mins of 8 tabbed browsing through wifi.
Is that good?

Yep, using the natural scroll (two-finger scroll) on my MBP would cause the process WindowServer to jump to the top of %CPU used for a second, however using the scroll wheel on my mouse did not cause WindowServer to even react.

It turns out it has to do with inertia scrolling (the iOS bounce scroll effect), disabling that brought down WindowServer CPU usage to the same level as if I were using the scroll wheel.

You can disable it under Universal Access > Mouse & Trackpad > Trackpad Options

OK, I didn't have any problem with battery life after upgrading to Lion, actually my battery became better! Seen this article about SMC reset and thought to do it anyway. MISTAKE!!! Now my battery is worse! Full charge doesn't even show 6hrs!!! I'm regretting that I did this SMC reset...

It probably didnt actually affect the battery life, just how the Mac calculates time remaining

Well, that's exactly what I think....but I hope it will not turn out like in Iphone with the bars saying that it was showing more than it actually is, after update it will show true bars!!!! I hope later Apple will not tell us, well actually Lion shows true battery usage and SL was showing more than what it actually is!!!:confused::confused:

I have my MBP set to use the integrated graphics card at all times and battery life still kind of sucks, I may just need a new battery but I feel like I should be getting more out of it. Mine is the late 2008 MBP and the battery is showing 86% capacity left.. I only get around 2-2.5hrs

internal/integrated graphics the same thing? if so, HOW? :)

And this is what I have been parroting this entire time on many communities...

It's not the fact that Lion is switching graphics. It's the fact that Lion needs that much GPU performance. Seems like Mission Control, fullscreen apps, and all of the other eye candies introduced have also increased GPU load and even if the only GPU in use is Intel, making it run full speed all the time is still not a good idea.

For me, the fix was simply a SMC reset. Fixed battery life, and also made scrolling much smoother. This is on a MacBook 4,1 ( no discrete graphics :( )

I love this. All the other eye candies? Old Snow Leopard etc had smooth full screen zooming if you wanted it, and 'drained' screens to the dock when minimised. I don't see what Lion is doing that is so demanding on a GPU. It isn't playing Call of Duty, its moving some 2D windows up and down a bit.

that's interesting..

but, is it possible to switch over to integrated graphics like he said he did?

if so, how?

thanks in advance!

The link to the free gfx switcher app is in the article i believe.

Alright well I originally did the SMC reset by removing the battery and holding the power button down. This didn't make a difference...

Now that I did the SMC reset using the method described in the article, it seems to have had an affect on the battery life and now my MBP is showing about an hour more than it used to. I am going to test this for a few days and see if battery life actually improved but it looks promising.. :)

What I've noticed is that Lion appears to be having problems with the newer graphics chips- no one seems to have a problem with the old GMA line of chips. Perhaps the drivers from SL might rectify the problem?

Have you tried using the gfxcardswitcher fix? The link is in my sig. It works far better than the smc reset.
