Ok, so here's my problem:
I just recently moved my itunes folder to my external drive where my all of my music is. I did this because I was doing a clean reinstall on my iMac. The problem I have now is that any new music/podcasts I'm adding to my library are getting put into the itunes folder; it's not going into where I'm telling it to. How can I fix this so that any new music goes into the proper place where all of my other music is kept? It's getting really frustrating when I add new music and they are not in the external library where all of my other music is kept. I'm having to go in and manually add it. Please help...

Did you set the location in iTunes preferences?

You need to go to the iTunes menu > Preferences > Advanced tab.
Where it says "iTunes Music Folder location", set it to the location on your external hard drive. Now import your music.

Yes I did. I've had my library on an external drive for about a year now but I kept my library files on my internal. Since I've moved the iTunes folder (the one with the files in it, not the music) my new stuff is going into that folder now and is not getting put into the folder with all of the music.

Here's the best way for me to explain. On my external drive I have these two items:
"External Music"-an arbitrary name I gave it, this folder has all of the music.
"iTunes"-this has the library files and all that other stuff.

In my iTunes folder, now all of the music is going in there instead of the "external music" folder where I've been telling it to in the advanced pane.

ANy ideas how to fix it? If I have to rebuild my library then how do I do that? I'd prefer to keep playlists but if I can't then oh well. I just want to get it working like it was before I moved it.
