Hey guys, I currently bought a new 15" MBP TB so I've been pretty happy with my 15" after years having my trusty and also nice 11" MBA. I know this is kinda late, but I have a 2012 11" MBA that was affected on the faulty Toshiba drives back in 2013, this one I have never used since back then. It is almost brand new, I did at the time lost my info in that SSD drive, but as I have been abroad and kept a backup identical 11" MBA air I never actually did anything with my 1st 11"

I'm going to travel soon to the US and bring it to an Apple store to see if it is possible to make it live with a new drive or a replacement and give it to my mom. What do you guys think are the chances of getting a repair/replacement? Of course the ideal scenario would be that I could get a new replacement altogether, but so much time may have passed.

I think you are dreaming if you expect a new computer after 6 years, that is unreasonable IMO since they would have fixed it at no cost long ago but you did not take advantage of that offer. Seems to me I read that they stopped doing the free repair for the SSD problem, but the only way to find out would be to contact them and ask.

Apple's official replacement program was valid for 3 years from the sale of the computer, so they have no obligation to do it for you today. You could still give it a try, you will probably have better luck at an Apple store in California since your hardware is getting close to Vintage status. If Apple is not able to help you, you can also buy a replacement SSD drive upgrade kit and replace it yourself - https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/ssd/owc/macbook-air/2012

Yeah I think it's too good to be true. I'll probably bring the computer and that's it. I just wanted some previous feedback if anyone had a computer replaced under these circumstances.

Thanks, I'll look into it. I don't want to lose the laptop so I'll probably have to go this route. I want to give the MBA to my Mom as she has never used a PC before, for her to learn how to use a computer.

Well I'm far away from California, but any Apple Store will do to ask. Thanks to you both for the help! I'll update whenever i get the chance to go to the store. (without having too high hopes LOL. I'm sorry was overly optimistically for the first post)
