Hi we're going to get a dedicated machine for final cut studio - but - 90% of the work done on it will be using Motion, not final cut, etc.. So was wondering if anyone could recommend a spec / what we should change from apple default mac pro to get the best performance out of motion?

Hi,

Motion uses the GPU (Graphical Processing Unit, the one on your video card) heavily. Even more then the CPU. The GPU calculates the images/layers/etc, the CPU 'only' the movements of the objects (well there is more to it, but this is basically it).

So, buy the largest video card, that really helps. And extra RAM of course.

Ask in the shop ;-)

And true, it also depends on your budget, but if you can serve more customers with a heavier machine, I say go.
