I never did a trade in but I was considering it this time based on the quoted value of my 11 Pro Max. Decided against it because I figured I'd do better selling it myself on Swappa if I so chose, but mostly because I wanted to keep my pristine phone in case there were any issues with my new 13 Pro Max when it arrives. After reading this discussion I will NEVER do a trade in.

I had my in store trade in get revised from $1000 to $700 two days after the trade in. Going back to that Apple Store tomorrow to see what happened. Seems pretty ridiculous that the rep that checked off every box said that the phone is in good condition and then put into a bubble wrapped bag, and then have Apple come back and say the value is lower after taking it into their custody.

Like I posted in the other thread you started, you traded in a XS Max. There's no way they're gonna give you 1K in trade-in for a 3 year old phone. That's why there is a revised amount.

It's not a normal trade in, its a promotion where the XS Max is explicitly listed with a $1000 trade in value. Apple's site matches this if you select any Pro model, select AT&T as your carrier, and trade in an XS Max.

Used Phobio a few months ago. I got full value for my devices. I did take pictures and videos of the working device before packing it up. I used extra bubble wrap on top of their packaging they send just to be sure. If anything went awry during inspection, I would be ready for a fight with the photos and videos.

In no way am I defending Phobio or the process because their reviews are dreadful. However, I guess I got lucky by putting in a little extra elbow grease.

I'm in the same boat. Got a "revised" trade-in value yesterday saying there's a hairline crack in the screen. Currently chatting with Apple Support to see what I can do. I didn't see any hairline cracks on the screen.

This whole 3rd party trade-in seems like a bit of a racket if you ask me. They’re probably going off the premise that most people don’t fight it and assume “Apple” knows best but little do they know that it’s a 3rd party working in cahoots with Apple to maximize profits.

The reason for my devaluation was stated as “Display has functional issues (lines, flicker, pixel damage)”. Nonsense, there was no issues with it!!

Nicely done with the extra bubble wrap. I took pics and used some extra tape after boxing it up. I legit thought my trade was in pristine shape prior to shipping it out. I even cleaned some of the dust from crevices with a q-tip 😂.

I’m on the other end of the spectrum. I traded in to Verizon and was originally quoted $400 for my 7+. Just got the confirmation email last night that I will be getting monthly credits that total $580. I’m quite happy with that refund on a 5 year old phone.

That's awesome! Silly me for thinking I could trust our friends at "Apple".

I know someone that got $800 trade in value for a iPhone 10 at the AT&T store so doesn’t sound like a good deal to me.
Big difference though. The carriers give you credits on your bill whereas apple gives you an actual refund on the credit card you made the iPhone 13 purchase with. So carriers will offer more money but won’t give you $800 cash and just give you credits on your phone bill.

Cancelled my Apple order and went by and talked to AT&T and they told me to order a phone off of their website (AT&T) and once it comes in I can bring my trade in up there instead of mailing it in so I’m going to try that.

Yeah that makes sense.

I traded in my 12 Pro to Apple. Just got the confirmation email today it was accepted for the full trade in amount of $640. I done the same with my 11 Pro Max. Had no issue getting the full amount. Both phones being in pristine condition looking brand new. Case and screen protector on both phones day 1 of purchase. Take pictures and video with time stamps before sending in if they pull any shenanigans. That will be the proof you need.

Quick update - got an email asking for photos of the damaged delivery including the shipping box, iPhone, and iPhone box. I replied to the email stating that the issue wasn’t with the 13 PM but rather the trade in.

Fast forward to today and I get another email with no substantial information and it just requested that I call 1-800-My-Apple. I call and the first CSR is clueless, puts me on hold then hangs up on me. Not a good start. I text Apple and they say we have to have a phone call. They call me direct and then I get bounced between a few departments until I’m back with customer service. Explain the issue again and the CSR says that the notes in their CRM aren’t descriptive but it appears that the trade will be valued at the full $790 due to an “exemption”. I ask to explain this further and she doesn’t know. I asked her if FedEx is going to be “charged” due to potential carrier related damage and she said that it’s most likely the case.

Plot twist, the CSR said that it appears that my iPhone 12PM is being shipped back to me? She can’t explain it and said to just be on the lookout for it.

Not sure what to expect but this is what’s currently going on for anyone who’s still watching this thread.

TLDR - might get the full trade credit and my 12PM shipped back to me.

I was a little concerned about sending my iPhone to the trade in partner in the mail after the lengthy process with my old MacBook Air. However this time, as soon as they received it I got the full credit almost instantly.

This thread has me worried about sending my trade. I bought it used when it was about 6 months old and has some light scratches on it..... I put a screen protector and a case on it and never thought about it again. When I got my new phone and pulled the old one out of the case and was wiping it up etc I realized I had forgot about it..... humm wondering if I should just sell it outright now.

I guess if they adjust the trade offer you have to accept it correct? If you choose to have it sent back is there a shipping charge?

Light scratches should be ok. They list the criteria on the receipt when you trade in, here's a copy of mine. My trade in credit was listed lower than it should be on the bottom but AT&T said it should be taken care of.

Very sorry to hear all the horror stories. I just got my credit back to my CC, $861 including the sales tax. Next time I do a trade-in I am definitely taking it into an Apple store in person.
