Hi all,

Either it's my imagination, or recently (~2 weeks) there seem to be quite a lot more new spam threads from bots and the like. Not sure if anybody else has noticed or if the spammer numbers have stayed largely the same.

I imagine to implement a screening process for new threads/members or waiting for approval for first-time posters would take a lot of work and time, so I'm not proposing that's a good idea to fix the problem. It's been so long since I've signed up to MR I can't remember if it requires a valid email address or anything - if not then perhaps it may be something to consider, just to hopefully ease the spammers away.

Just wondering what everybody's thoughts are and if anybody has any suggestions, or if I'm probably overreacting.

Thanks! :)

Uh..there's no spamming going on.

If you see them, please report the spam. The moderation team doesn't have the resources to review each and every post and so we rely on the members to report any violations.

I think the technology that forum uses to block spam is better then vBulletin but obviously some does make it through.

Hi maflynn, thank you for your reply. I always report the spam as and when I see it. The reason I thought it best to mention is that a lot of the spam had very similar wording/hyperlinks. In typical fashion though, after starting the thread I haven't seen one spam thread yet. So whatever you've done/you're doing seems to be working fine.

Thank you again for the reply.

We seem to see a spike in spammers during the early morning hours, around 3:00am EST. A number of other mods on a different time zone typically attack those spammers with great zeal and excitement :)

XenForo's anti spam and spam prevention tools are top notch in my experience. Community contributions is key here, for the post-spam handling. I have yet to run into a spam post here, but I only visit once a day to b honest.
