kevstern, i asked people to stop posting with the whole mac vs pc stuff. do it elsewhere please.

on the other hand, i think the macbook air looks pretty sweet. i just got time to watch the ad and guided tour, and i like it. i think its more for someone who has a desktop or laptop at home already, but needs a laptop to carry around for other purposes. i think it's too under-powered to have as a main computer. like, my macbook is my only computer i own, apart from the 5 year old desktop PC we have, so not having things such as an optical drive and having a less powerful processor wouldn't be too great, especially when i went off to uni.

i can't wait to try one tho, i'm guessing they'll be in apple stores within the next couple of weeks. probably quicker for people in the US.

well, i literally just pulled the trigger on a macbookpro this morning. I know updates are forthcoming, but i know the prices will be more than the refurb price I paid and most importantly, i need the mbp now. my wife will boot into windows to get some work done from home and at night, i'll use it to help process mpeg2 files in bitvice for my video transfers. And I'll have it for vacations to edit photos instead of coming home to a pile of photographs :)

the current mbp lineup is sweet. sure, the new ones will be even sweeter, but if you don't need it for professional use, then wait. if you're a pro and working properly, you are no doubt using it to make $$.

now, i'll keep re-reading this post in a month or so if they update the lineup :)
i'll just look at my sales figures and remind myself it was a smart decisions :)

Tanboy!! for you Sweety!

:)
I'm not sure if I'm understanding you correctly. Do you actually use a Mac? :confused:
What on earth might possibly confuse you about the post I wrote? Should you not understand my concerns, perhaps you might read more posts here regarding buyers remorse. I re read my post and found it quite clear, concise , and perfectly in line with the the subject matter. I stayed well clear of bashing Mac's in the manner that the 4 Mac fanboys attack PC's in every single P.C. forum. I neither attacked you, your computer, and even praised the airport extreme N, and I enjoy it every single day. I probably wrote the kindest post of the many who have obviously had problems with the Apple products they own. While I do wish that Stevey, had upgraded the airport Express, I clearly have several million Mac owners behind me that wish the same. It now appears that while I have a DVR that blows the Apple TV into oblivion, I have zero intention of buying an Apple TV, with a miniscule 40b hard drive on hopes that it might play I-tunes in my HK reciever. Nobody in their right mind will pay to watch 720p video on a 1080P H.DT.V..? I really wanted to like Mac's and still have not ruled a small initial investment in a mini, just to see if I like it better. Obviously, I'm not ready to throw down 2g's even with my student discount to buy a laptop that is less powerful, cost far less, and will not be able to handle the video demands that I need, PC graphics appear to blow Mac's away by anyones standards.
Best wishes,
Kevstertn

Graphics, education, and ???

:apple::apple::apple::confused:

Lighten up, I really am just trying to understand what it is that people do and do not like about the Mac's that often are much more expensive than p.(whoops, candles), now might you just lighten up a bit? I would like to know what has become of the graphical subsystems that during Mac's less popular periods kept the company afloat. Is there is a special Apple site that still sells such machines, sorry to have ruffled your feathers with questions regarding Apple Computers. I plan on visiting my local Apple Store this weekend for a look around, and that perhaps someone here might help me understand, a few things that I am obviously missing before I go.
Best Wishes for the New Year,
Kevstertn

Nope.

I also bought a new white MacBook in mid-November after the latest refresh. I really stewed about this, I did NOT want to regret getting a MB that I had saved for 2.5 years for then and would then wish I'd waited 'til after Macworld 2008 if an aluminum-cased MacBook was released. But the Air is out instead, and the specs on my white MB (basically a black MB without the black and 40GB less HDD space) are way better than the Air.

While the Air is pretty sleek & I can't wait to head to the Apple Store to see one, I have no personal use for it. I don't travel for work, and my MacBook goes to/from my job every day in an InCase & padded backpack, so no need for the features of the Air (for me).

duh! we ARE on a mac forum.:apple::eek:

Double Duh!!:apple::confused:
Some P.C. owners that look to Macforums are potential Apple customers.
Triple duh!!, Why attack them, when you might explain why you like your Mac's or even answer concerns buyers with bucks to spend may buy one? This particular topic is about buyers remorse, and every single poster (Mac cultist or otherwise), gets slammed. Back when Apple products were known for easy "it just works" quality, it appears that a lot of Mac owners had no need to know a motherboard from a CMOS bios or what a POST test might be. Unfortunately, we uh, "candle owners" visit here with questions and usually just quietly lurk until we we see misinformation or lies about "candles", the variety of "Candle O.S's, and apps we have that run on "candles". Very early on the "candle" camp" had to learn a lot about hardware and drivers to upgrade our p. (candles), and sometimes just to get the darn "candles" to light.It appears that some Apple owners are still undereducated about the innards of your machines, If unable to answer simple questions, do not resort to "duh", When you have no answer. Fortunately, the move to the Intel platform, is a great equalizer on the hardware front and removes much of the Mystery that has Shrouded the Mac, I am betting many Mac owners of newer machines have already learned enough about what makes them tick, so that they don't have to answer with ther ever helpful "duh, this is an apple board, what did you expect?" Oh, so warm and helpful! Then I can learn if Intel based Macs use the same Intel 4965 ABGN wireless mini-cards, that many "candles" have, or if there are different internal mini cards for Mac's mobility line? If you are unable to answer, please spare me a "quadruple "DUH" :confused: response of you and your pseduo intellectual brethren, that makes for an unneccesarily hostile and compative forum. No one should slam you if you answer with "I dont know", or direct someone to a sources that have such information. I welcome you to the Intel Platform, and I would be pleased to answer any questions that I can answer regarding the "Santa Rosa" platform, memory capacity, and even give you a tip. On Intel based systems press control-alt-and delete at the same time twice in rapid succession for a a quick way to enable the bios's assistance program module and place the system into "virtual turbo mode", this will slighlty overclock your CPU and memory channel speed" It is an undocumented trick to prevent overuse, and will enables a maximum power boost mode for very heavy mumbers crunching or graphic needs as well. It will never exceed the rated speed of your CPU or Graphics system, because these are always truely rated at 15 to 20 percent less than stated performance capacity, this allows for minor power blips and small surges, will not damage your Motherboard, or any device attched to it.By doing this, Intel chips function forever (I've never had one fail be it AMD or Intel) though if constantly operated wide open, extra heat could be generated causing your system to reboot occasionally and potentiially shortening the life of your computer. When desired power boost has finished what you need it to do,simply press the control-alt-delete buttons simultaniously twice in rapid succession again to return your system to it's normal speed. Or, after ten minutes the sytem, will warn you to save your work, and then reboot with standard speed ratings. See how we can help one another?
Best wishes for a happy new year,
Kevstertn

Also NO buyers remorse.

Bought my MBP in November and was questioning it a little at the time knowing that Macworld was just a few months away...could not stand my Windows based Vaio any longer and made the switch.

I can honestly say, I will NEVER GO BACK!

Thanks Apple!:)

kevstertn, sorry if i seemed abit rude saying to 'post elsewhere', theres just been a couple of threads with a couple of users really trying to argue their cases, saying how good PC's were and how crap Mac's are, and acting really biased and not very open minded. I can't be bothered to justify why i bought a mac, or why i think they're equally as good as PC's (yes that's right, i called Mac and PC's 'equals') but some people prefer macs and some prefer PC's. each to their own.
