What with the sheer glass 'invisible' fronts to Apple stores, I have often wondered why they don't install anti ram-raid posts in front of the stores as standard.

All you need is to sink stainless steel tubes (shiny to fit in with the store's design ethos) into the ground a few feet from the store front at 4 foot intervals and fill them with concrete and you'd stop most vehicles except the very largest - i.e a 40 ton truck might make it through, but it would probably destroy the entire building and render any equipment worthless in the rubble anyway.

Given the average size of cars in the US, a Corsa would definitely qualify as a supermini.

I guess it all depends on your local perspective.

In The Netherlands you need a special permit to install those things, but cities almost never grant permission for that. A few years ago a jewelry store got into legal trouble for installing a few of those because they were robbed a lot in recent years. They had to remove them before they were fined for more than a few robberies. (Our law is stupid sometimes)

The sooner thieves realise iOS devices are now bricks without the associated Apple ID password - the better.

They already know this, but people are still going to pay for what they believe is brand new excellent value Apple products. If it doesn't work do you think they will be able to get a refund from the robbers? Do you think the robbers will give them a receipt and guarantee?!

Haarlem is about 10-15 miles away from Amsterdam, one of the most criminal cities in Europe.

Type in 'Frank Buis Youtube' in Google and in less than 10 minutes, you won't want to visit Amsterdam for the rest of your life.

I am not even remotely surprised by this story. I am actually surprised it took those crooks that long.

*Whoosh*
Me thinks thou dost protest too much. You might be overcompensating. Just saying. I think your rush to "it's racism" say more about you than anything else. Manhattan was a Dutch colony.

There's no rush to anything. What is the Harlem in New Amsterdam (Manhattan) known all over the world for culturally? And what defines the experience of the group that dominates New York's Harlem in this country?

well it was going well until you showed your face.
Of course there's no faces to be shown on a Internet forum that's why punks like you can type tough, but would never challenge someone like me face to face.

A lot of you casual racists hide behind keyboards and act offended when called out on offensive speech like it should get a pass when it's meant to be a joke or somehow a mistake was made in misinterpreting it.

People will and should be held accountable for what they say in public, and learn to pause and be thoughtful before using the keyboard especially since the internet records your statements forever.

You may have some personal issues to deal with. You're the boss. Breathe deep...exhale....ahhhh now you feel good right?

Sorry, but nobody's post was racist. You got tripped up by some wordplay using homonyms and references to apple pie.

It's a shame that some people decided to suggest that calling out others on racism means that you "doth protest too much." Just ignore them and acknowledge that you misread a clever joke.

Let me unpack this for you.

From the headline:

"Recently Opened Dutch Apple Store in Haarlem Hit by Smash-and-Grab Robbers"

Dutch Apple is a variety of pie.

Haarlem is a name very much like that of Harlem, a region of Manhattan.

I'm pretty concerned about racism, but your hypervigilance may have tripped you up here.

Seriously, thanks for this. I didn't really understand the jokes at first, but this explains it. I didn't know that there was such a thing as a "Dutch Apple [Pie]", so I was totally lost.

Now I kinda want apple pie…

They are Apple. I'm sure they have more than enough money to construct retractable ones that only come up at night, like roadblocks, but they'd probably never think of that.

Oh come on. They probably have insurance for stuff like this. Despite the constant drumbeat of these pointless stories here, I'm sure this kinda stuff is the smallest blip on their radar.
