I like the looks I get from late model rMBP owners when I'm using my 17" PowerBook or 17" MBP.

Apple dropped a good amount of serious 17" customers when they dropped that size from their lineup. And no amount of saying "pixelwise it's the same amount of space" is equal to 17 inches of real, PHYSICAL screen space!

I bought a 15" pre-unibody 2008 MBP during the summer and really enjoy the extra real-estate compared to the 13" unibody MBPr that's my daily driver. I think next year I'll look for a 2006/7 17" MBP. The 17" would look good with Snow Leopard running. That or I'll get a late PowerBook to add to my PPC.

The G3 snows have a classic design. Definitely a cool Apple product.

Eh those have graphics issues, so I don't recommend them. I would go for a late 17" PowerBook

i found via google a video of the keynote where jobs introduced the white ibook g3. interesting.

8600 was the only one with issues. The Radeon X1600 in the 06-early 07 MBPs were solid.

The nVidia 8600GT models had graphical issues, the Radeon X1600 had anti-glare overload issues (had one, hated it) and the first generation Macbook Pros had severe overheating issues. All clunkers, in retrospect. The latter two also will not run anything later than Lion 10.7.x.

As for the snow iBooks, the keynote speech gives you some idea about its reception (at least by the Chosen Few).

I remember at the time pretty much all budget notebooks were grey/black and the white iBook really stood out without dipping into Chad Valley territory like its forerunner.

I repasted the MBP when I got it during the summer in an attempt to keep the 8600 chip from getting too hot. Runs El Cap a good bit cooler now.

I watched that keynote recently as well. Genuinely cool when Steve picks up the iBook - stark contrast to the Dell he had to compare! Apple ran this cool ad for the iPod but featured a snow iBook!

It depends upon which iBook G3, clamshell was more popular in schools since it was ultra durable like the HP 11"/14" Chromebooks. As far as the ice/white iBook G3 it was more of a mixed bag on adoption rates, it was a huge improvement from a childish/toilet seat clamshell but the plastics were more scratch/case flex prone so it was one step forward & two steps backwards. Radeon 7500 revision was the turd era, GPU faults due to BGA design and lack of proper shimming/stand-offs created case flex which fractured GPU BGA solder.

iBook G4 was a huge improvement but it was too little too late as Intel mobile CPUs were starting to close the gap with the G4 in raw speed & battery life--on campus most opted for the 12" PowerBook G4 as you could use a 2nd monitor/clamshell, our school mainly sold iBook 900Mhz or the weaker 800Mhz G4 model and Apple CTO/Retail Store student discount/Cram & Jam iPod deal made the PowerBook a better bang for the buck for those who treated their notebooks well.
