I am a proud new owner of an MBA 1.6/80.. So far, the MBA has taken everything I have put it through this weekend. I chose the 80 HDD vs 64 SSD mainly due to the minimal differences that I have read on various forums on this topic. The one thing I am having a hard time dealing with is the really long charge times.

I ran the MBA completely down last night and left it unplugged through the night. I plugged it in this morning and noticed that the recharge time was 8+ hours. I thought that the battery indicator was in error and decided to keep an eye on it. Sure enough, the recharge took that long. I am all for portability but I cannot use it for what I bought it for if I spend the whole weekend recharging the MBA for 4 hours use.

Reason why I bought it. My main machine for work is an MBP. Machine is great and I will continue to use it with the ACD 23-inch that is is hooked up to. With public transportation, it has become a challenge lugging it back and forth. An opportunity came up and I picked up the MBA to run the occasional office stuff that needs to get done as well as items for my business.

Sorry for the long post but as you can see, I could really use the MBA for what I bought it for and overall I love it.

my recharge times have drastically improved. It was similar to yours but after a few charge/recharges, i've gotten it from 0% to 80% within 3 hours, which for me, is perfect since I usually have a gap of that much time inbetween of classes.

This is a common problem with the mba. However, I have read that the charge time should decrease by a couple hours after that first initial full charge. if it doesn't, there may be an issue with your battery. download a program like coconutbattery to monitor its charge and number of cycles.

Mine took 8 hours, too, the first few weeks that I had it.

But after calibrating the batteries twice these last two months, it has drastically gone down to maybe 4 or 5 hours max.

I noticed today that the time to charge the battery has decreased by several hours. Is it common once the battery is broken in for the charge times to equate to the battery life, example 4 hours battery life to 4 hours to recharge battery to 100%.

I never really took notice with my MBP charge time when I was using it at home.

Now that I think about, does the 45 Watt Power Adapter drive the speed of the time it takes to recharge the battery.

Battery life is pretty good at 99% and I am already on Cycle Count = 4. I will probably drain and recharge over the next week. Just want to make sure all this gets ironed out before the 14 day return policy expires.

might i recommend draining your battery so that it goes flat every single time.

my dad seems to be able to do this on this ibook, and in both of his batteries has gotten over 600 cycles, while still being at 70%. get your moneies worth!

I had the same problem as this before, but oddly enough, it would only report 8 hour charge times while I was using the power outlets in a hotel room I was staying at.

Once I went back home and tried charging my mba, the estimated charge times went back down to around the normal 3:30-4 hours.

So I guess the mba might be sensitive to the actual power source.
