Love in the Time of Cholera OR One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

excellent books! I like 100 years better.

Absolutely. To elaborate, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini is an amazing work of modern literature that is as educational as it is riveting, but also an easy and enjoyable read. I cannot recommend it enough, and neither will you once you've finished. ;)

And don't watch the movie, not until you're finished!

I finally read this last week-end; it is excellent a fantastic read.

Brave New World...comparable to 1984 (I loved both)

Catcher in the Rye
The Giver
Death of a Salemen
The Watchmen
V for Vendetta

(Last two are graphic novel, but the plot is just stellar)

Agree re Brave New World; disturbing book and comparable (and more accurate in its vision of the future in some ways than 1984) and the always brilliant Animal Farm, a stunning work of peerless prose and political philosophy.

Great books - I loved the,. especially 100 years - what an opening line, it just grabs you by the throat. If you like magical realism, try Isabel Allende, House of the Spirits, Portrait in Sepia and Daughter of Fortune, amazing narrative sweep and wonderful characters.

Cheers

+++++++++1

"Muchos años después, frente al pelotón de fusilamiento, el coronel Aureliano Buendía había de recordar aquella tarde remota en que su padre lo llevó a conocer el hielo"

... If you like magical realism, try Isabel Allende ...

Sorry, but I can not back up your recommendation of Allende, she has not the spark needed to be a great magic realism writer. However, it is not likely that the OP will ever read any other book recommended here.
