Hi there,

I am uncertain if this idea has been done before, but I think it could work quite well. Basically, if you had to pick one song to recommend to everyone else in the world, what would it be?

I have a broad range in different musical tastes, so, I'm going to pick a few from different music genres. I hope that you will do the same and hopefully this thread will let other people discover new music.

Acoustic - Howie Day - Collide
Punk - Finch - Letters to You
Rock - Muse - Map of the Problematique

The first song I have recommended in not available in the UK iTMS but it well worth the download.

Shaun

I'm sure there are similar threads, but I'll play along. I'm infatuated with No Doubling Back (iTunes Store link) from Jason Mraz right now.

EDIT: Yikes! I don't have that version. I have some acoustic version that is MUCH better. The version I have is from his Sold Out album from 2002.

I know you aren't surprised by my selections:

The Roof - Mariah Carey (pure GENIUS)
Breakdown - Mariah Carey
Petals - Mariah Carey

Shows sides of Mariah people don't think of. AMAZING songs.

The Hacker - Clock DVA
Ghosts of Perdition - Opeth
The Pot - TOOL

And I could recommend about 1,000,000 more!!

love will tear us apart, Joy division.

Bit of an odd one, but I like it.

I've always really liked it too. It manages to be both mournful and nostalgic, qualities that are much appreciated in a bit o' late night listening. :D

Isn't this what DailyTunes is for...?

My recommendations

Some recommendations which I haven't been able to add to my DailyTunes recommendations, for the sake of this thread:
  • Walking On The Milky Way - Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
  • Ballad Of Bodmin Pill - New Model Army
  • Well Did You Evah? - Deborah Harry & Iggy Pop

Hurt - Johnny Cash
Sunsets - Powderfinger
One Crowded Hour - Augie March
Flame Trees - Cold Chisel
Blow Up the Pokies - The Whitlams
Overkill - Men At Work
How to Save A Life - The Fray
Side of The Road - Ben Folds
Scar - Missy Higgins
This Train Will Be Taking No Passengers - Augie March

Every single one is a gem. The last one by Augie March is a ripper of a tune.

Wake Up by Arcade Fire

Overall just amazing... It inspires me to never.... give in and to live as awesomely as I can.

Rock Pink feat. Peaches: Oh My God
Acoustic Nouvelle Vague: Dance with Me (they also do a great cover of "Love will Tear us Apart")
Electropop sniffies: Ooh La La
Electronic LCD Soundsystem: Tribulations
Psychedelic Superpitcher: Heroin
Pop Tiger Baby: Girlfriend

6 in no particular order - although none of them are technically "songs" since they don't have words. However, these are pieces of music you could listen to for a lifetime and still find satisfaction.

West End Blues - Louis Armstrong
St. Matthew's Passion - J.S. Bach
Adagio for Strings - Samuel Barber
A Love Supreme - John Coltrane
Music for 18 Musicians - Steve Reich
Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis - Ralph Vaughan Williams
