recommend a voip app that will _receive_ calls from screen-off or backgrounded

I have long been an android fan (degoogled). When I switched to apple for family FaceTime I brought some of my android functionality. I have missed 99% of the calls on my other (non-google) voip accounts. To receive these calls I carry two phones: good fun. I would prefer to carry only the one phone, but I must not have a dial-out-only voip experience

Is groundwire the only option? I don't fancy sharing credentials with them for push notification call delivery. But I guess I would keep a much closer eye on CDR (call logs)

I have a a few cloud PBX providers. Pay as you go. I am not interested in fake-free calling apps pirating privacy.

This is an iphone 12 pro max, with ios 14 latest point version. I am not ready for Wrong Think prevention features in ios 15.

Wouldn't the compatibility of a VOIP app depend on the service(s) you're trying to use with it? What is it/are they?

My own VOIP provider hasn't updated their iOS app in two years and the app doesn't receive calls…though I can dial out. I haven't looked at alternatives in at least that long. I suppose if I wanted the calls to come in I could forward them to my iPhone number.

It seems that most generic VOIP apps are abandonware.

I am looking for a non-proprietary app that employs SIP as would any voip provider offering SIP credentials. SIP TLS is greatly preferred to avoid hostile mobile networks -- although voip.ms requires zRTP paired with SIP TLS. SIP TCP would be next best for battery performance.

"Wave Lite" is only suitable for outgoing calls. 🙁. It is non-proprietary.

Good question OP. I’ve noticed when making calls via telegram via iPhone can be a nightmare. Meaning press that power button and it’ll end call 😂 I don’t recall android behaving this way.
