No. For me, this happens when I send a message through the web interface, but not when I send through mail.app. I'm surprised you're having any trouble at all with gmail. I take it you are following the instructions gmail supplies? As i remember there is a certain port you have to open...

Perhaps you need to change your settings? I'm guessing that this is the page you need to change (these are my settings):

I have the same configuration and yes, I followed every instruction they posted.

But I still have troubles with their pop server, because Mail pretty often can't connect to it.

BTW, I have opened the correct ports and use SSL.

email redirection

I use .mac for other things so I would also like to use it for mail (mostly use mail.app anyway). However, I own a domain and I would like to see if I could have myaddress@mydomain.com somehow redirected to me@mac.com (I assume I can use reply-to- to have replies come back to myaddress@mydomain.com). Is there any way to do this? Thanks, Colin

Aol

I have used a few e-mail services. Some that are connected to the provider that i have and other just free versions.

I think I am up to about 7 e-mail accounts. I won't go into detail about them all but i recently started to forward them all to... AOL e-mail.

G-mail is nice and I like it but i have multiple macs and i was getting tired trying to sync them all the time. So i went ahead and forwarded all but 2 of them to AOL IMAP accounts. This works great for me as everything stays in sync without all the hassle on my part!!

AOL is also pretty easy to set up with Mail in OS X and works great for multiple computer setups. In that regard it is better then G-mail. If you don't have more then one Mac then G-mail will work just fine.

Regarding sent emails showing up in the inbox. This happens when you send out an email using the web interface and then later check your email using a mail client. This is actually a good thing if you do a few things first..

Enable POP within the web interface. Then set up your mail app to use gmail for smtp and pop

Lastly set up a rule --- where if From contains your email address then move it to the sent folder.

This means if you send out stuff using the mail client your sent mail will appear on the website. If you send stuff using the website it will show up in your sent folder when you check your email.

This set up comes in handy when you prefer mail clients but still need to check email on the road

I got a mail from my e-mail provider that they are shutting their service down, so now I have to find a new one. Can you recommend a good free e-mail service? If possible, could it be related to Macs? For example, my previous e-mail was @macbox.ru.

Thanks :)

If you want a .ru mail.ru is a good alternative I've used it for over 10 years no problems.

For a fee, SpamArrest. Love the challenge/response feature.

For free, another vote for Gmail. Did you know that, if you own a domain name, you can host it on Gmail for free? 100 Email accounts per domain. We do that for nascardiac.com - We use it as a way to offer free @nascardiac.com Email addresses to our members.

Another vote for Gmail. I hate the ads at the bottom of Yahoo! emails. Besides, who needs unlimited space?

Go Gmail.

Edit: Actually, if you want your own domain then AOL will buy you one for free and you can access the email through AOL's interface. (Which is pretty nice) It also has free IMAP w/ 2Gb storage. Talk about a deal. The domain is owned by AOL, though.

Here is the AOL link.
