Looking for a headset with mic and speakers.

I suspect I need a USB headset, because the headset requires a powered mic.

I am also looking for some decent (I am not an audiophile) external speakers. 5 W should do. Not sure if I need USB speakers?

    Any recommendations?

You would not need a usb speakers. What do you plan to use your speakers and microphone for?

The headset with mic is for Skype and for listening to the occasional 3:00 am movie. The speakers are for hearing stereo sound coming from my Mac-mini. I do have two ears. :)

Thanks for replying, by the way!

Personally... I would suggest that you change the title of the thread:

    From: Recommendation for Mac-mini
To: Recommendation for a good headset/mic and speakers
or: Need recommendation for a good Skype headset

Many people who have experience with audio might skip past your post completely thinking it is generically about a Mac mini. I believe that if you edit your original post... you can change the title.

Ah yes, the title was too generic. I just changed it. Thanks for the advice!

My personal recommendation would be what I use, and I am very happy with.

Headphones: Any quality brand of headphones, take your pick.

USB Mic: Zoom H2 recorder (functions as a high quality usb mic)

Speakers: KRK VXT6, they are as much fun as you can have with your pants on.

Probably not something you would have considered but it's a more versatile set up, as each item is a high quality tool by itself that you will certainly be using way into the future.

That setup would cost almost as much as my Mac-mini!

OK then forget the Zoom and Headphones, but I'd give some serious thought to the speakers. They'll still be going in 20 years and will make you mini come alive. Your music will sound better than you thought possible, movies will feel like you are in a theatre and you won't need headphones for games.
