I just replaced a broken Roku with a new ATV-4 which works fine, but I need a good remote for it. The included Apple remote, while a little better than that old Jony Ive swipe and touch POS, isn't going to make it. Anybody using an ordinary button-type universal that they like?

Thanks

Logitech Harmony is (nay, WAS) king of the hill... if you can find one, jump on it... otherwise, I have used the gen 1 ATV (small, white) remote and the gen 2 ATV (tall, narrow silver) remote... do not like any of the Apple "Siri" remotes... but that's just me.

The OFA Streamer Remote is about as basic as you can get without a bunch extra buttons that aren't useful. You will need a line of sight to the Apple TV however. Also, it's not designed for controlling devices on different inputs. It's basically for controlling the power/volume on a TV/sound systems and the Apple TV.

If you don't mind using IR, just find a remote that you like, and the Apple TV can learn the button presses.

All Apple TVs, since the very first generation from two decades ago have a remote learning feature, enabling them to easily and quickly learn the button presses of any IR remote.

It even works with a Roomba vacuum IR remote, so pretty much any remote that you like, the ATV can use it.

I use the remote that came with my TV. Works fine for all the functionality - up, down, left, right, vol+/-, back, enter. Just the Siri mic is missing, but that is not a problem for me.

you can disable the touch pad on the new remote, and just turn it into a directional pad, I believe it's in settings.

if your TV supports HDMI-CEC, your tv remote should also control the aTV.

the aTV will learn the IR commands from any remote.

You can also get sleeves for the siri remote, that make it a bit easier to hold and orient, and prevent it from sliding between the couch cushions so easily.
